Review summary

We enjoyed this cruise very much although, as always for doing something the first time, it was a little confusing at first.  Overall, the quality of food, service and accommodations was extremely good.  Our steward who took care of our room was extremely friendly and helpful.  His name was Greg and was from the Philippines, and we enjoyed our conversations with him.  He was very helpful in getting a mattress top because the mattress was very hard and proved to be extremely uncomfortable for my wife who has a very bad back.  After the first night she was able to sleep better.

Being a cabin for persons with disabilities, it was larger than most to accommodate the scooter we rented and that was a very important part of the trip.  The balcony was great and we enjoyed sitting out there and watching the wake since it was at the back of the ship.

The main concern I have is the confusion for us which we found on arriving to the port and dropping off our luggage.  There were no wheel chairs available at the drop off area and we were told that we could get a wheel chair only after we went through security (which turned out to be after the second round of security, and that was only temporary until a service agent finally got a person to assist us getting on the boat.  I believe there should definitely be some assistance for persons with disabilities when we drop off the luggage before parking the car.  My wife was able to walk a little to get through the first security and luckily we found her a chair to sit in while a parked the car and returned to get through the second round of security.  THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY TO ORGANIZE THIS!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We were disappointed in the service and quality of food at Cagney's Steak House but the french restaurant and Moderno's were excellent.

Service and Staff

I would like to recognize Greg from the Philippines who assisted up in our cabin. He was very helpful and friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin and balcony, being for persons with disabilities, were quite large. The mattress, though, was very hard and uncomfortable which was a problem especially since my wife has a very bad back. Greg, our steward, was able to get a mattress cover which softened it and made it much better, however. Not being able to shut off all the lights, however, without removing the key by the door, was a little troublesome when someone needed to use the rest room during the night.

Ship tip

The procedures for persons with disabilities could be explained better before the cruise especially for first timers, especially for those with mobility impairments.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Procedures for dropping off persons with disabilities and assistance in that area regarding wheel chairs could be much better organized

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

It would be great if accommodations could be arranged for scooters on the island to enable persons with mobility impairments to be able to go there. My wife was unable to go because of her disability, but probably could have gone if there were scooters available for the stay there.

If you call prior to sailing they will arrange help for you. We had help with our disabled daughter on the Spirit a couple years ago.

I would definitely call Norwegian and complain about the wheelchair issue.
