Review summary

I was so shocked to see this ship get poor reviews from others. My family went on a NCL Epic cruise on Feb 2011. This was our fourth cruise and by far it was the best. We have been on Princess, Royal Caribean, and Celebrity prior to this. Our 4 year old daughter loved the kids club called "Recess". She also enjoyed the Nickelodeon character breakfast, story time with Dora, dance party with Dora, and the meet and greet character times. She got to meet 5 different characters. The other shows were also great like Blue Man Group, Second City Improve, Comedian Jeff Hobson. The Legens show was nice, but could have been better. It only had 3 performers. I would have liked to see a bigger variety. The Cirque Dreams show and dinner was ok. You have to pay for this ($20-$30 each) and it is not as good as the other Cirque shows I have seen before. We bought the $20 tickets and our seats were terrible. We were in a booth in the back and it was difficult to see what was going on. And the dinner at that show was not the best. Overall, the food on the ship was great. The buffet was good for breakfast and lunch. There was a ton of options. For dinner we ate at either of the main dinning rooms (Manhattan Room & Taste). The food was delicious in both. The only negative about them was that they both had the same menu. So it was like they were really one restaurant, but in different locations. The auqua park was nice. They have 3 water slides, a toddler splash zone, several hot tubs, and two pools. The pools were a bit small in my opinion, but my daughter loved them. The casino is really big on this ship compared to other ships. Fat Cats Blues Bar was great. The musicians were awesome. You could have ice cream any time of day. (big plus for my daughter) Rooms were nice. A very new and updated feel compared to other cruises. We had a balcony room on the 13th floor and loved it. As you know showers can be pretty small on cruise ships, but the showers on Epic are wonderful, much more roomy. The only two negatives for the room were the sink and third bed. The sink is very stylish but not practical. The third bed in our room was actually a couch by day. At night they would throw and sheet and blanket on it, and it turned into a bed. It was not very confortable to sleep on. Since the ship is so tall you tend to feel the movement of the boat alot. The rocking of the boat was noticeable but it did not bother me that much. I have to say the ship was huge and we did not get to do all the things we wanted to do everyday. There were so many activities for all different interests. We loved our cruise so much we put down $250 deposit on a future cruise. Doing so we got $100 off our bill for this trip.
