Review summary

The pool deck on the Dawn is the best I’ve seen on a ship! I love the amphitheater style! Overall we had a great time with our family in spite of the challenges towards the end.

Embarkation

One of the fastest and pleasant embarkation we’ve experienced. Well done Cape Town

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was always good with plenty to choose from.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The musicians were excellent and Ben Moss outstanding. I hope NCL brings him back on other cruise ships!

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our 9 year old grandson had a lovely time in his age group. Couldn’t wait to get there every day.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We found the staff very friendly and helpful and trying their best under very difficult circumstances. I have to mention Julia, the Ukrainian sommelier in The Cellars Bar. Her wit and personality made my cruise!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Can’t fault it.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Perfectly situated ocean view cabin very central to everything. We were right at the stairs and elevator, so convenient. One floor down to just about everything.

Ship tip

Book excursions and not necessarily through NCL. We saved a lot of money by booking independently in Madagascar through Frigo and BMT (Bruno Madagascar Tours)

Ports of call

Nosy Be, Madagascar

The best day of our cruise! Bruno met us on the pier and we had an excursion booked with him for Euro 65 - saw lemurs and went to an island for a swim. Paradise!!

Port Louis, Mauritius

What can I say? We were quarantined by local authorities as they feared cholera - tests were done but came back negative for cholera while we sat for two days quarantined on board. I really felt for the crew! What they had to endure was nightmarish. Anyway we eventually were allowed to dock and spent 4 wonderful days at our hotel before flying home. Sadly our children and grandchildren missed their two days with us post cruise as they had to fly home but at least had the morning to enjoy at the hotel.

Richards Bay, South Africa

Only got off ship to buy mementos from the vendors. There has to be a better place for NCL to dock - this coal port is just terrible! South Africa has so many beautiful coastal towns, why come here??

Cape Town, South Africa

Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), Madagascar

We booked an excursion with Frido Euro 50 and had an absolutely wonderful day with him as our guide. We did the Three Bays tour and Boabab tree and swam at a beautiful beach to finish off.

Mossel Bay, South Africa

We visited the beach, very nice, but I wish locals would come to the port area and put up stalls to sell mementos and postcards.

Disembarkation

We took off our own luggage at 7am and was off the ship in no time in Mauritius. (Two days later due to the quarantine situation)
