Ship: Norwegian Dawn

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 10630

Review summary

Not the best cruise we have been on. Boston to Bermuda is a very weather dependent route, so can't criticize that. Very little communications about upcoming weather conditions. Cabin tv very limited so no information available there. Excessive smoking apparently allowed. Could benefit from an adult-only pool area.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining rooms/Garden Cafe/O'Sheehans excellent. Had 3 specialty restaurant meals. Moderno and teppanyaki excellent. Los Lobos just ok.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Ship had good activities but nothing special or fancy.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Performances were typical cruise ship shows, except for the musical team of Jose and Patty. They were absolutely fabulous. Saw them every time they performed as probably most of the cruisers did. Such a talented and entertaining couple.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Most servers were pleasant. Not up to par with Disney or Royal Caribbean. Not enough bar waiters especially at entertainment events or poolside.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was spotless. Otherwise pretty ordinary.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin kept immaculate but SO TINY! Toilet area barely fits an ordinary sized human being.

Ship tip

Excessive smoking in common areas. Seems to be completely unregulated although they claim it is restricted. Including allowing smoking on the Promenade Deck where people are trying to exercise.

Ports of call

Boston, Massachusetts

Great place to be but its my home so I'm biased.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Lots to see and do as long as weather cooperates. Our excursions were canceled. Lots of connections to other activities. Free ferry to St. George's provided by NCL was a bonus.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy walk off highly recommended. Being allowed to stay in your cabin until 9 am and getting full breakfast was a huge perk. Very organized.

The indoor smoking was limited to the casino but it permeated that end of the ship. It made walking past LeBistro very unpleasant and it was very noticeable if you ate in the Asian restaurant. There were large groups of people smoking on the Promenade Deck. This seems odd to me since that’s where people were walking for their health!

I was just on the Dawn in May and the only spot you could smoke was on one side of the pool deck and parts of deck seven there was no smoking allowed inside except for the casino. If there was smokers in any other part of the boat Then they were doing it against the rules
