Boston to Bermuda - Nickeld and Dimed

Sail Date: June 29, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

We were very disappointed in Norwegian Cruise Line, compared to Royal Carribean, Princess, and even Carnival. They almost force you to pay extra to eat in a decent restaurant with service. Plus, they \"nickel and dime\" you to death on mandatory tips for overpriced drinks, Internet fees, and to top it off, they even charge you a fee to convert your money to gaming chips so that you can then lose it to them!
At one meal, we upgraded our included house wine to something else and they refused to deduct the price of their wine and sheepishly offered to give us a 20% discount.

Their food, rooms, and room stewards and restaurant staff were great. However, their young bar drink staff were rude and ignored you if you did not add on additional gratuities each time you ordered a drink.
I also have little confidence that they pass along the full amount of the \"default gratuities\" to their staff!

Pros: Itinerary stopping in Bermuda for 3 days

Cons: Norwegian's blatant policies to nickel and dime you to death for everything.

Recommends Norwegian Dawn? No.

Ship Quality
Only one decent adult pool. Very crowded with arguments over the reserving of chairs.
Food and Dining
Food was above average but you had to pay extra to eat in any of their 5 speciality restaurants.
Cabin / Stateroom
Average.
Service and Staff
Room stewards were excellent. Restaurant staff were good. Bar staff horrible. Bought a bucket of beer for $35. Gave them a $3 tip. Went back to get more ice and limes 2 hours later and they acted like I shoud give them another tip to fill a bucket with ice!
Entertainment
Overall entertainment was excellent. Russian acrobat couple was outstanding.
