My husband and I decided that this year we would do a cruise because we wanted a hassle free vaction. We didn't want to have to make various reservations for hotels or rental cars and drive or fly. So we found this 7 day cruise to Bermuda from NYC which was perfect. We didn't have to fly or rent a car. So we upgraded our room based on the $$ we saved on airfare and car rental. The cruise only sailed from NY on a Sun. afternoon and we woke up Tues a.m. in Bermuda. Perfect. It's a perfect trip for those who don't like being out at sea for days on end. We docked in 3 diff. ports around Bermuda over the 3 days. It was nice to be able to really enjoy the island without feeling rushed. We then took 2 days to sail back. Our room was quite large and comfortable for the two of us. We had a huge picture window. Unfortunately the only rooms on our ship (The Crown) that offered balconies were the Penthouse suites. But our window was quite sufficient. The boat was relatively small. Only about 1500 (psgrs. & crew). There were only 3 tiny stores (one duty free/ one convenient type store and one Jewelry store). A small casino. And an over priced spa. It did have a nice fitness center. The treadmills looked out a large picture window at the front of the ship. There were a handful of restaurants. One Main dining room. 3 specialty restaurants and one Buffet. The idea of Freestyle dining is appealing. There were no real assigned seatings unless you had a reservation in a specialty restaurant. The food was good, but not fantastic. Our biggest complaint was that there was never anything but Meals served. It was impossible to find snack foods or munchies. The store on the ship had a limited selection of chips (pringles) but when we were in Bermuda, the store was closed. We just got tired of eating big meals every time. The buffet lunch menu was always the same- burgers, Hot dogs, fries, misc. lunch meat and an occassional fish or chicken. Dinner menus changed nightly and the service in the restaurants was very good. The cruise even offered up a voucher to eat on the island. This was a nice touch. Gave us the opporunity to experience Island food. I should mention the drinks. We all know that drinks are most often at an additional charge and are pricey. And this is true of the specialty drinks and beer. But their wine list was actually quite reasonable. The ships entertainment was pretty good. There were a couple shows that had a slight cheese-factor to them, but overall, most were pretty well orchestrated. In general,I found it to be just what we were looking for. A very relaxing vacation. Lots of island and beach time. Not so much sailing or travel time. I would definitly recommend this cruise or Itinerary. I might suggest a larger ship though.
