From the first time we boarded the Breakaway, we did not feel welcomed as we were either ignored or we were poorly assisted by the ship's crew. This will be our first and last time booking with Norwegian.

Service and Staff
3 out of 5
From the first time we boarded the Breakaway, we did not feel welcomed as we were either ignored or we were poorly assisted by the ship's crew. One day while we were in line for Guest Services, a Guest Services attendant from Croatia took the time to help everyone in line but us despite the fact that we were in the middle of the line. Another day as we were having a late breakfast at the Garden Cafe, a different attendant from Croatia started standing by our table staring at us almost trying to make us feel uncomfortable so we would be forced to leave. We never had these kind of problems on the 3 Carnival cruises we had in the past. As African Americans, we are used to less than stellar service but as paying customers on our anniversary trip, we felt that this was unacceptable. We could have just saved our money and stayed home. This will be our first and last time booking with Norwegian.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
We had no significant complaints.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Our balcony was consistently dirty and we felt that housekeeping could have done a better job of cleaning our room.
Ship tip
If you don't care about customer service, this cruise line is for you.
I have been on many cruises all over. I have traveled alone with two kids (teen) and (preteen) and with friends. I have found the bigger ships are fun but less friendly for adults. The smaller boats like the pride, gem and Dawn I was able to really meet people and have an even better time. I still correspond with people I met on the smaller boats. Also really depends on where the boat sails from as to what people are on them. The ones out of New York tend to have more northeasterners while the one from New Orleans has the more laid back crowd. Both can be fun depending on the experience you are looking for
Maybe you did but maybe you do not like anything? IJS
I read a few of your reviews about the different stops and you don’t like anything so just maybe cruising is not for you, this is not meant as a mean reply just an honest observation.
We sailed Breakaway in Jan 2016, plan to go again in Jan. 2018 and 2019 because among other pluses the food was very good, the equal to Oceania, Celebrity and HA. I hope it’s as good as it was a year ago. I’m optimistic.
Thank you joeglo67, I think we all can find discrimination in everything if we want to. I am an Irish American and a girl who was from Mexico was rude to me within 10 min of stepping into the ship, that being said I didn’t jump to “I was treated this way I was because of racism” maybe she was just tired since 6000 people literally just left the boat and another 6000 were stepping on! She NEVER had a break I am sure , between sailings. So how bout we stop the racism remark and think about how hard these people work (I bet we would not work the way they do and for the pay they receive) I also paid for my trip and who cares it all boils dow to low pay for a lot of work! Maybe stop for a moment a think about you trading places with that person , I bet you would not! Ps... I used to be a maid at a hotel and it sucks!!!
I kinda disagree. I had a lovely experience with friendly helpful staff. The food I will agree with but you have to remember that the boat is feeding over 4000 people and I agree with the room being not cleaned well enough but I believe if you asked it would of been taken care of. I didn’t complain because again the staff works nonstop and very hard. I’ve spoken to a few of them and they barely get time to rest before work again.
