Review summary

We cruise Norwegian a lot. Would not cruise Breakaway again. Next cruise will probably be a different line. May do Escape to Bermuda though because I love how Norwegian does the Bermuda itinerary.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Mostly okay embarkation, security did not open up until late, but that was not a big deal. There was what I will call a line Nazi who yelled at everyone to get closer and not leave any gaps. Not a pleasant person nor a great way to start a vacation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We all had the 3 meal dining plan. We loved the specialty restaurants especially Ocean Blue! If there had not been an additional up-charge we would have dined there twice. Specialty dining venues were mostly empty. Taste and Savor were fine, but Manhattan was awful. Norwegian needs to stop cramming guests into their restaurants. Manhattan was so crammed with tables that the servers could not move between them to serve food. Bars were all a great experience especially Novemar in Margaritaville!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Loved the thermal spa! Hate that they bring people through on tours while we were attempting to spa. Rock wall was never open and the ropes course had way too many people on it and was not enjoyable. The rest of the activities seemed mediocre. The theme night parties were very dull.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Enjoyed Burn the floor (it got repetitive after a while) and Rock of Ages was GREAT! Howl at the moon was so much fun as well as the comedians and all of the bands. Really enjoyed the jazz!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
There are a few who stood out. The bar staff in general were great! Novemar at Margaritaville was wonderful. Our server at Taste was great too!

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
I have to say this ship was not designed with large crowds and cold weather in mind. The atrium is too small for the events held there. There are not enough quiet areas on the ship and they need more adult only venues. How about an adults only dining room? There are 3 main dining rooms. Smoke is a big issue. It permeated everything. I could not even enjoy the balcony because of someone smoking below us. The ship is really maintained and was very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our stateroom had and angled balcony and it was fabulous! Plenty of storage space and room for 3 adults.

Ship tip

It would be better suited to warm weather cruising, but if cruising in the winter definitely get the spa pass!

Ports of call

New York, New York

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
LOVE this island! So much fun and so beautiful! Cabanas are definitely the way to go!

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
16 lines and only 6 open for customs? Come on! Nothing that Norwegian could do about that though.

NCL has nothing to do with how many customs agents are available. Last time we went last month, we were off and waiting for our ride by 830. This after having a sit down breakfast. Even when ww boarded we were on and having lunch at Taste by 1pm after arriving at 1140.
