Our Family Cruise was a success! With such a wide age range from 93 down to 7, we decide to opt for activities for the children, The adults (parents, grandparents, and great grandmother) could entertain themselves just being together. It worked out perfectly. When remembering the cruise, i don't think I can remember an hour when one of the kids didn't have an ice cream in their hand.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
It was crowded but what I expected with 3,900 passengers trying to check in.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Our family cruise had 7 children (7 - 13), 10 adults (40 - 93!).
We ate in the main dining rooms (The Manhattan Club, Savor, & Taste) all bu one night. The staff at all 3 dining rooms were very accommodating and attentive. The children were at one table and the adults at an adjoining table. One night we were at the Moderno (the Brazilian style restaurant). It was a little disappointing for a specialty restaurant. The service was very slow coming around with the various meats.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We tried almost everything - The rock-climbing, mini golf, rope course, slides, etc. - Excellent . . . BUT the pool is so small, it's almost a joke! Especially if you mind being shoulder to shoulder to people in the pool! AND trying to find a chaise by the pool is near impossible. My husband actually got up at 6:45 AM one morning to try and get 4 chaises and all were already "reserved" with towels except for several next to the ping pong table. Most days we just gave up!
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Rock of Ages was a full Broadway show with top notch entertainers!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The Staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating! We've been on Princess, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean and this Staff was definitely Top Notch!
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The Cleanliness of the ship is a 5 star rating but the design is not. It's just too crowded!!! The Atrium is the smallest of all the ships we've been on. It just seems wherever you are, it's crowded! Definitely lacking common space. They increased the number on cabins without increasing the common areas.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Cleanliness - 5 stars BUT you could hardly move around the cabin it was so tight. The space between the bed and the closet was less than 11". The chairs on the balcony would only fit it they were sideways. I don't remember ever having a balcony room that small and we've been on 17 cruises.
Ship tip
The Breakaway is a "Family" friendly ship. All the children (7 cousins) had a ball and loved it. They have memories to last a lifetime of their time together. BUT If you're a couple, I suggest looking into another ship.
Royal Naval Dockyard is far away from everything. Be prepared for a long bus or ferry ride to where you want to go. Right at the dockyard is Snorkel Park Beach but it's very crowded.
We had an early disembarking time and couldn't get through the crowds of people who had a later time that were blocking the exits. Very disorganized! On other cruise lines, passengers gather in different location according to their disembarking time and then were called accordingly.
Such a nice memory for you family cruise, and many more I am sure. Great age variance. I am sure the little ones enjoyed it, hope great-grandma did too.
