Review summary

Let me start out by saying the overall trip to Bermuda was great. I would have given a five star rating except that the Breakaway cruise ship is big, but constricted. Its like they crammed 10 lbs. of stuff in a 5 lbs. bag. The ship was difficult to move about it was like walking through a maze. The walk areas were narrow and most became quickly congested as the passengers came out to the decks. I would do the destination again, but not on the Breakaway. We had a balcony stateroom, the only thing was that the balcony was way too small, apart of the constrictions. Literally big enough to have two chairs and a small table. You had to move them around just to get on the balcony.

The balconies were small, again apart of the constriction.

Bowling lanes are only 2 and they are located on deck 7 near O'Sheehans which is open 24 hours. So it will be noisy.

Yeah I got a room on the 8th deck only to see later that it is above the bliss nightclub and bowling lanes!

MplsBuck. Agree with you, and how can anyone know that this ship is insanely noisy by reading specs?

I've noticed on this site that any negative-leaning reviews are often followed with comments of "do your research!" I agree with rgruenhaus and oldivyfarms (the OP). For me, the BA has too many guests with not large enough public spaces. For example, the martini bar (and number of bartenders staffing it) is the same size on NCL ships with half the passengers. This is congestion. You don't know this until you're on the ship and experience it, then you learn what's right or isn't right for you.

I agree... 😔

alioop sure research does help, but until you are actually physically there you may not still know how it is to you. videos of rooms and balconies can be deceiving. I have booked rooms that say a certain size on the site and have a generic pic which has a disclosure saying they may not be what you get. Cheapest representation is what cruise lines pay for.

Sounds to me that you are a candidate for a Haven suite. You have to pay to play. This is what we do, skip the next year vacation and book the Haven for a following year and go off season. You get double the size for half of the cost. You have to remember , cruise ships are floating hotels with all of the bells and whistles. The only way they can pay their bills and invest in new ships if they are filled to capacity, otherwise they will turn to "Sears stores". Try to enjoy your vacation.

I concur with alioop. A 32 sq ft balcony, e.g., 4' x 8' ft, is something you can easily assess before sailing. And the solution is a large balcony or aft balcony as suggested.

I concur , clferr

aft balcony is the best!

We had an aft balcony on Breakaway in May it was wonderful 2 loungers and 2 chairs and still room to move around. I feel there are certain areas that get to crowded like atrium in the evening. They should have some of those shows in a different venue. A lot of ships have restricted areas like a 2 story dining room in middle of ship that eliminates being able to walk across certain decks without going up and downstairs. There are negatives to every cruise you will never find perfect ships with perfect ports.

Do your research next time...you'll have a much better experience

There are over 4000 passengers on the ship. Yes, it will be crowded and its something you have to deal with. Balconies are small, but always nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the open sea. If you want a big balcony try an aft one! The balconies on Carnival ships are about the same size, width wise maybe a bit deeper. They also just have 2 chairs and a table. We have been on BA 5 times and enjoy the convenience of leaving out of NYC.
