Review summary

The NCL Breakaway is a huge ship with the crowds to go with it. They've tried to break the hordes into many dining venues which does give one more options than a smaller ship. (We missed having a grand dining room although The Manhattan Room with live music and a dance floor was nice.)

The biggest benefits: extraordinary live shows (and the cheap price).

Another plus was staying in Bermuda 2 nights versus the typical in at 7am and out at 4pm. If you like having 5 water slides (for adults - these are fast!), a bowling alley, and numerous kid activities this might be a cruise for you.

Smaller cabins, overwhelming crowds, SMOKING areas scattered around so the odor is many places, poor dining room service, and mediocre food were some of the negatives.

Great location mid-ship and also near the stairs and elevators made getting around very easy. The bed faces the way the ship is moving so less sea-sickness. Lots of shelves for clothing. But! The balcony next door can see into your balcony!!!? Shocked us!

Ship tip

Don't get the Beverage Package unless you can drink about 6 alcoholic drinks per day.

This will be our 2nd time (leaving Oct 2nd) on the Breakaway. Loved it before. Don't recall the smoking problem in the casino and at the noodle bar (i'm not a smoker either) but maybe i was just lucky. The favorite area of the ship was the private Haven areas as well as O'Sheehan's for breakfasts. Cya onboard! 😃

Maybe the breakaway is not for you. Try the dawn. The casino is on the end of the boat. So the smoke is confined back there. No real restaurants close by so you are good. Never had a problem. I go on the breakaway in November and I cant wait. Thank you for your review.

I'm a non smoker and had no problem with it..my friend that quit smoking was complaining, "oh there's so much smoke in here." I was like really try being in a car with you when you smoked then tell me about smoke polluted areas.

There are designated smoking / non areas, so everyone can enjoy their cruise in their own way ..can't wait for Sunday! 😎

I'm on the Breakaway as we speak for the second time and we love it just as much as we did last year. Crew, Food and Entertainment are GREAT! We are having a blast! Sat by the pool everyday without any problems at all. Will probably be on next year too!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼

I completely agree with the smell of cigarettes not being confined to one area. For nonsmokers who are either very sensitive to smoke or those with breathing problems this is a huge negative. For instance, I could never eat in the noodle bar because it was right next to a smoke filled casino and open...
