Review summary

I am so sorry to say that the Norwegian Breakaway was the worst ship I ever been on.  It boasts size and beauty. Yes it is sizable, but only because they made it full of staterooms, so much that it cannot handle the occupancy. No room in the pool, no room at the shows. Everything, including freestyle dining needs reservation or you wait. The design of the ship is not accomodating. Library strewn between piano lounge and atrium..NOISY....chinese restaraunt next to casino..SMOKY...the ship is very monocromatic, so I have been on WAY more beautiful ships, including Norwegian DAWN GEM AND CROWN... The ship is clean, the balcony stateroom roomy, but the RULES on this ship are .." pay a lot to book, leave your wallet at the door, and be prepared for horrible service and food in dining room. Room service has EXtra charge, drink package offered,, but after you pay, good luck finding someone to get you a drink.....Would not recommend this ship....Next time I cruise, I'm going ROYAL CARRIBEAN!

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

You can pre pay everything on RCCL. that's what we do...no surprises. Drink packages, gratuities, specialty restaurants, pretty much everything can be prepaid. You can also see your running bill on your tv screen. You can keep an eye on your spending that way too. Enjoy!!

You also can pre-pay your gratuities on Norwegian, you can also purchase an alcohal package, and dinning ( complimentary Resteraunt are sooooooooo worth it, especially the garden Cafe on the Breakaway). I'm middle class but at times feel low class, due to bills, schooling, a teenager, car payments, etc, but I cruise twice a year, I save 1,500 that pays my fare, and excursions, buy souvenirs and come back with around $200.

With Carnival you can prepay your gratuities. We do this so it's less yo worry about at the end. We go to the steakhouse on the 1st night and buy souvenirs. Really, after you pay your way on and gratuities, you don't have to spend another cent. I am referring to Carnival.

12 dollars a day pet perdón for gratuities. if you want to go any specialty dinner (which you don't because they have plenty of options) there are a few things they charge for but it's not anything you need to do. it's fun it's my 6th time going and I am on a strict budget.

So just have to ask if anyone is willing to tell, how much do all the fees end up costing per person? I think the majority of "middle class" cruisers are looking for an all inclusive experience with budget cap. It sounds like this cruise line is targeting a different audience with all the fees.

Who goes on a cruise to go to a library?

Different strokes (and experiences) for different folks. NCL ALL THE WAY!!! PS: Takes 1 minute to make online reservations and you can do it 8 weeks out.

I loved the breakaway except you have to book your shows in advance

Thanks for your review.   Im glad you gave good ratings where they were deserved and poor where it was deserved.   I will agree with you about hte MDR service and food on NCL being poor.

I hope your next cruise goes much better.

We love Royal Caribbean. Wouldn't go with anyone else. You won't be sorry you did.
