Review summary

In summary it was a great experience onboard. Beautiful scenery everyday and every port. A little disappointed with Norwegian’s planning at the ports and the fact that we were unable to go to Seattle. I gave them some slack because this is a repositioning Cruise, but the fact remains I spent real dollars for their cruise services. I feel like they under delivered on ports and the number of days sold. The late boarding in Vancouver combined with the half day off ship for customs in San Francisco made our 6 day cruise a 4 1/2 day cruise.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Embarkation was the low point of the week. It was a 7:00 pm boarding with an 11:00 pm muster. The line was snaking through the building and out the doors an hour before boarding started. Terminal workers seemed overwhelmed and confused. Haven guests with priority boarding had trouble taking advantage of that luxury due to the situation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate mostly at the specialty dining and the Haven Restaurant. Food quality was good. Service was excellent.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was great. Always friendly. Always helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I really liked this ship. Looks like they’ve moved away from the bright colors and contemporary designs of the past. The colors and design were more upscale.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was excellent. It was roomy and nicely appointed. The master bath was really nice. I question the design of the pull out bed in the second bedroom. It’s inches off the floor. My mother-in-law couldn’t get out of it. She had too sleep on it as couch.

Ship tip

If you have an excursion booked on a morning that requires going through customs, make sure you get off the ship on first call.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Vancouver is beautiful and very walkable. We loved watching the seaplanes and boats from our room at the Fairmont Waterfront before our cruise.

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
The port in San Francisco docks right in the city. Loved sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge and by Alcatraz. Once docked, the view from the top deck on the back of the ship was beautiful. We returned to San Francisco a few days after the cruise. We were never able to re create the view we saw on the docked ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation was pretty good. The Haven concierge escorted us out efficiently. I was a little irritated to be held up from my family because they wouldn’t allow me to leave the ship until they cashed out a small onboard credit.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

Muster was so late as we didnt get allowed on until 7pm with most of us not getting on until 10pm. Basically due to NCL for what ever reason not booking a berth in Vancouver from morning. It had to wait until the Jewel departed at 5pm. I guess the people in the office assumed a 2.30am sailing would be fine not boarding until 7pm.

I'm surprised the muster drill was so late. Did they give you an explanation as to why?
