Review summary

Took 7 day Alaska explorer cruise and had a fantastic trip. Covid protocols were in place but did not feel restrictive and the ship atmosphere was comfortable and relatively quiet. Crew was personable and provided a high level of attentive customer service. Ports of call changed slightly due to weather but alternative port was great and did not feel like we missed out on anything. Excursions were reasonably priced and well organized. Lectures and entertainment on board were great. Food was also good. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a laid back cruise experience. Would definitely recommend and will definitely sail with HAL again

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was of good quality and freshness and was readily available. Room service is complimentary and was delivered promptly. All areas had comfortable seating and reasonable wait time.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Nice selection of activities to choose from. Had everything from early morning stretch and wildlife spotting to trivia and bingo, lectures, shopping presentations and music entertainment. All events were timely and as promised.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff were friendly and delivered great customer service. Cabin steward was attentive and cabin was cleaned very quickly each day. Was made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Everyone was wonderful and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Loved the ship. Felt like a traditional and classic ship and the level of cleanliness was consistent and spotless. Masks were provided and saw staff regularly cleaning common areas, standing by to clean between shows, etc. Sings clearly marked locations on the ship so it was fairly easy to navigate. Felt very comfortable and not too large.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Selected a veranda cabin and opted for mid ship and mid deck to minimize motion as this was first cruise and was not sure what to expect. The cabin was roomy and comfortable, bathroom felt comfortable in size, plenty of storage space and outlets. Room was clean and quickly made up in the morning. Bed was extremely comfortable.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy and organized—received advanced notification of options a couple of days prior to departure. Very easy process and well communicated day of departure. Luggage was color coordinated in terminal by disembarkation group and was easy and quick to find. Plenty of staff to provide direction to ground transportation.
