Review summary

This cruise was nothing compared to our other experiences with other cruiselines. The food was not good. The onboard entertainment was absolutely boring. They seemed to cater for only the elderly. This is the 1st time I have ever been anxious for my vacation to end.

I am in my early 50's and have cruised on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and HAL. I have found the service and food on HAL to be superior as well as the wide variety of entertainment. Carnival has gone downhill in food and entertainment with the same shows one every ship. It is also nice on HAL not to have to fight for a deck chair.

First cruise ever was aboard the HAL Westerdam, last October. Ship was well maintained and tastefully appointed, food and service outstanding. Classy, charming, a wonderful break from our otherwise hectic schedule. We sail again in four days aboard the Neiw Amsterdam. Can't wait!

ImLostRU I agree 1000%. HAL is extremely classy. We are leaving in June for our second cruise with HAL.

OK. I am in my mid-50s. Now that's out of the way, my wife and I have been on two cruises with HAL and one with Carnival. Hated Carnival. (I think the staff had been trained to say the word "fun" in every sentence while making announcements or giving directions. Very annoying). HAL ships are classy in our opinion. We are very much looking forward to an upcoming cruise on this ship.

I was 18 on my last HAL cruise and it was fantastic! And I'm so excited to be going on another HAL cruise at 21.

Ugh, my boyfriend and I were gifted this cruise (we're both in our mid 20's) we really wanted to do a more "fun" cruise line like Carnival or Royal Caribbean because they have the water slides, rock climbing walls and more pools. I've been hearing not so great things about Holland America between the food quality, service and entertainment. Hopefully it's not to horrible!!

I've NEVER been bored once on a Holland America ship. Enjoyed the serenity. Maybe because I'm old and accept it.

I felt the same way, but the HAL forum police told me it was my fault (Somehow I didn't have that problem on the NCL ship I boarded a few hours later). Expect this post to be deleted. Criticism of HAL is forbidden here.
