Lack of internal seating space by Cruiser31501921

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

Have had far better cruises. Bar service was poor. Frequently had to fetch drinks from the bar and yet still pay 18% service charge. Not enough spaces around the ship to relax and have a drink. Afternoon quizzes were standing room only, as were other locations at times. Food was OK, but buffet was very similar each day. Not much to recommend overall.

If there is a favorite part of a cruise I would then say visiting lanzarote would be it. We rented a car and drove all around the island. It was very nice. The Volcano moved me.

An excellent cruise with like minded people by Cruiser73222403

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

calling at ports that we have not been to .It seems that booking a cruise is a gamble. It seems that a lot of my fellow passengers had a drinks package because they booked at certain time and I seem to have just missed it !!!

navigator cruise by wlraese

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

we had chosen this cruise most of all for the itinerary.    we did enjoy all the ports we stopped at.    it was an added plus that the cruise itself exceeded expectations.    we have taken many cruises.     this one the food in the main dining room was very good.   the sushi in the izomi restaurant was also very good.  we avoided the windjammer as it is too noisy,   too busy and too hectic.      most days we had room service of something quick at the snack bar on deck 5.    several people in the dining room  just went beyond expectations and made the cruise special

Flawed but fun. by Cee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Scandinavia

Dining service and selection was the best part of the cruise.  We chose MyTime dining and enjoyed the flexibility it provided. Our waiter, Ivo, and his assistant, Jakob, were pleasant and efficient.

Our cabin steward, Miguel, was helpful.

The internet connection, sold by day rather than minutes as with other cruise lines, worked well.

In Bergan we chose the RC Bergan On Your Own tour.  Materials were passed out last minute.  The map had no street names.  I was under the impression, obviously wrong, that there would be some way to ask questions about Bergan (like where are the shops?) before we left the ship.  We went to the tour director's presentation the day before, but he didn't say anything about the specifics of the city.  He just repeated the online shore excursion info.

Departure of shore excursions in the theater was confusing at the beginning of the week and improved over time.  However, having only one person checking out (clicking the bar code on our Sea Passes) at the stop in Flam was ridiculous.

Also, in Skjolden there was only one door open for returns.  People stood in line in the rain for anywhere from half an hour to a full hour.  Pitiful. When the buses dropped off those of us who booked shore excursions at the front of the line, those standing there got nasty and made ugly comments as we merged into the lines. I blame RC for not providing more entries into the ship and for having no personnel there to direct the returning bus traffic.  This failure in returning to the ship is the prime reason I only rated the cruise as good.

We enjoyed the "16 feet, 4 fiddles" show immensely.

The last day's production number was a disappointment.  You could see that the cast was prepared and talented, but the choice of music was deficient...loud...no subtlety, no sweet melodies, just loud. "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries" distorted the original version in a weird way. Even with the Momma Mia selection it was hard to hear familiar refrains; loud and flashy.  No class.  Costuming was strange and tacky.  It was a loud and gross show.  Yuk.

AWFUL, AWFUL, TERRIBLE CRUISE by Cruiser24674825

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The whole cruise was the worst I had ever been on and I have been on many. The food was terrible, there was never anywhere to sit in the buffet restaurant, it closed at 9.00pm, on most cruise ships they are open until 11.00pm. The main restaurant was well below average. The drinks were ridiculously expensive -£14 for a small wine!. There was not enough loungers in the adult only pool - the only place to get away from the feral children - who were not policed by the crew or parents and were left to run riot around the ship- causing misery to everyone, especially at 2am in the morning when they were running around the corridors. The ridiculous amount of sea days - (was this to save on mooring fees)?. This was after all the Med and not Atlantic or the Pacific. This cruises was advertised as a beaches cruise but you had to get back on the ship at 2.30 in the afternoon on many stops - ridiculous. The shows were terrible with the exception of the ice shows. There was no afternoon tea service no midnight buffet - no where to eat if you missed the 9.00 deadline for the buffet. On the whole very poor value for money and a huge disappointment.  Can somebody please explain to me why there is an 18% service charge tax on all purchases, this is an American tax and this ship was sailing out of England, which we do not have in England -outrageous charge.I have been on RCI twice before and this was by far the worst cruise I have ever been on. I will certainly make sure that I inform everyone I know not to go with RCI. We felt that we had been mugged in every way possible.

Second leg of a back to back cruises by Cruiser22309211

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The right mix of sea days and excursion days that met our demand.  We did not make the stop in

Nice France because of incident on the beach the night before our arrival.  This cruise was the second leg of a back to back with different cabins.  The crew very efficiently moved our luggage for us by 8:30 am which allowed us to tour South Hamption.  Excursions were great and the reason for our cruise.  Be aware that restrooms are limited and not available on the tour buses.  Bus drivers keep the restrooms locked and won't open them, so NEVER miss an oppournity to go.  I would gladly pay a little more for the excursion ticket knowing the restroom would be available for an emergency.  The RCL transfers to/from the airport were excellent way to go.

Good if your a Brit only. by thesorgers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

we thought the cruise was catered to the British mostly. The second week on the cruise they ran out of American bacon. The food was kind of bland and overcooked. The entertainment was only British headlines and extremely hard to understand as a Canadian. The ports were nice but paying for a bus transport to the end of the pier for 5 or 9 euros was a little nickel and diming. A taxi was cheaper. Also , you sold us Hop on hop off bus tours that were cheaper on site. We bought one for $21US and $25US and both were 12 euros there. Didn't appreciate being ripped off by you. Also, rust was dripping off to our balcony and ruined two pairs of shorts I had out on our balcony. The last days out was falling on our balcony chairs and all.i have pictures of this. The railings are all chipped up and need repair badly. Poor ship maintenance in my opinion.

Great ports, mediocre cruise by a1astar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

The shore excursions to St Petersburg, Russia is a must.

Most of the staff very average, breakfast, lunch and dinner the Windjammer was unimaginative. Really disappointing in quality, taste etc. The better food was in the specialty restaurants. The entertainment also fell short. There was maybe one headliner worth attending his performance.

I was expecting more from Royal Caribbean, I like the cruise line.

What an interesting itinerary to an area of the world I never thought I would go to.

Royal Caribbean made it easy and enjoyable to visit all the exciting ports of call.

cruise 6/6 to Canary Islands by bendork

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

I enjoy the gym, the healthful food options, and the enrichment lectures.  Nice as Diamond member to get free drinks between 5-8:30 pm.

lectures are important.  they are a major draw for me on a cruise.  would never take a repositioning cruise if no lectures.

noticed your cutting back on some things, eg chocolate on pillows.  that's not crucial.  the things above are.

would recommend the cruise to others.

not great by hennyr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

The Navigator of the Seas needs to improve in many ways if it wants to compete with other ships/lines.

The hallway carpets by the cabins (at least on Deck 6, where we stayed), are very stained.  The cabin on the other hand, was very nice, clean and spacious.

Food is a major, disappointing area.  The buffet at the Windjammer is the same food, day in, day out.

Service in the dining room is spotty...sometimes waiting for a tea can take a long time.  The dinner and lunch menus were o.k....nothing special.

It wasn't until we complained about the slow service, that things improved, at least for us.  We still heard many people complaining.

On this cruise, everything in the shops was taxed 20%, even though we were in international waters.  When we questioned them, we really didn't get a complete answer.  They said it was because the ship didn't go to a non-EU country.

Prices of goods and drinks were outrageous.

Smoking in the casino is an issue as well; the entire casino will smell of smoke, and you have to go through it to get to some other areas.  Very annoying.

Our previous cruise on the Independence of the Seas was not fantastic, but compared to the Navigator, it turned out to be a lot better.

The Navigator is just not a great ship at all.

We were mostly in cold weather, and even though it has several swimming pools, not one has a (retractable) cover on it, so people were inside most of the time, which made it very crowded.  Bar service or even finding a seat somewhere became a challenge.

The daily schedule, just like the food, was always the same.  Many activities would cost you additional $$.

One very annoying thing, to try to get more $$ from the passengers, was the sale for the extra dining packages.  You couldn't get away from it...even in the dining room, they would come and try to sell you the packages.  Also, in the dining room, if you wanted better food, it would cost you.....you want a better steak...pay up...you want a lobster tail...sure...it'll cost you.

Mexican food would cost you $25.00 p.p.  You want sushi....same thing.

RCL gets people on board with lower up front prices, but one there...watch out.

Chocolate on your pillow at night...forget it.

I could go on...but you get the picture....

9 Night Atlantic Europe by kevingilman19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

My favorite stop for the cruise would have been LeHavre, France and a tour of the D-Day beaches but this was cancelled because of a French dock workers strike. As a result, I feel like we spent too many days at sea. Ship provided plenty to do but still too many days at sea for me. I saw little too do in Gijon, Spain - a different stop might be considered in the future. Other stops were nice.

Just Average by Cruiselovers375

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Transatlantic

The ship was fine, just extremely disorganized, particularly in the excursions department.  At the first port of call, getting off the ship to get to our excursions was absolutely chaotic.  It improved on subsequent  ports, but was never what I would call good.  The food in the dining room was average at best.  We have been on other Royal Caribbean ships where the selection and quality of the food was much superior to this one.  Cleanliness, friendliness, and courtesy of service was very good,, but were not enough to pull the overall experience up to above average.
