Review summary

We took this cruise to try out Royal. We have gone on Carnival for almost 13 years. We felt that the ship was nice. But the food was the same quality. We were disappointed about not a lot of entertainment during the day. Disappointed that they close the buffet area for hours between meals, so people are trying to find seat other places. So it's crowded on the main deck. And then they kick you out at 9:00 from the buffet area. Where are people suppose to sit down to chat or play a game with family or friends. Its loud out by the pool with the movies going. And Ice cream closes at 6:00. What if we want ice cream after dinner. Also constantly being asked to make a reservation to one of the restaurants while eating is annoying.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was fast and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room was crowded. Couldn't get in or out of our seats without bumbling the people at the table next to us.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the pools, flowrider, and rock climbing wall. They were all fun.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows were good. But there wasn't much entertainment during the day. We sometimes got bored waiting an hour or two between activities. Need more activities during the day.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The service we received was good. We were disappointed that we only saw our state room guy twice and he didn't know our names. Wait staff was good, but were also disappointed that they didn't address us by name like other cruise lines do. They would call us dad, mom, and baby (daughter is 8).

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was great. Was clean and good for us.

Ship tip

Its great one time, but to us the cost wasn't worth it. Royal gives you a nice ship. Carnival is more personalized and gives you more for less money.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
Just boarded and exited the boat from there.

Catalina Island, California

5 out of 5
Really liked the island. We rented a golf cart and drove around the island.

Ensenada, Mexico

5 out of 5
Besides looking a little old, everything was great. The people and food were- great.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was great, only took about 20 minutes or so from getting in line to exiting the terminal.

There are plenty of food places for free to eat at on Royal Caribbean cruise ships.
