Review summary

Nice price for this cruise but the food and entertainment was lacking in quality. Would likely do the same route in the future, but with Carnival or another line.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Of all the 6 cruises we have taken, this was by far the most efficient check-in. Safety procedures were easy. Very good.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Again, of all 6 cruises we have been on, this was the worst overall food experience. Food in the buffet and common eating areas was bland and mostly tasteless. We actually made a game out of trying to find a decent sauce -- pasta, chicken, etc. The premium drink package was way too expensive for a 3 night cruise at around $550. We did love the Schooner Bar and the Star Lounge. Wait staff (Sharon and Ghusti) were great.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Limited for folks our age (60) -- but did use a very nice Fitness Center. Pools were small and the jacuzzi's were consistently packed with bodies like human petri dishes.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Of all cruises, the entertainment offerings were the poorest yet. The ice skating show was decent but the Royal Theater was underused. The "comic" they had onboard really only got laughs because he obsessively concentrated on phallic comedy... really all he had in his bit.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Really appreciated all of the wait staff (especially Jenevie, Yangyang, Ghusti, and Sharon). Our room steward, Adeline (I think), was outstanding. They were all friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Enjoyed the layout. Everything seemed clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice room. Storage was good. Closet space was sufficient.

Ship tip

Go to the Schooner Bar.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

Ensenada, Mexico

2 out of 5
It would have been better had the ship stopped in Catalina Island before going to Ensenada. With just Ensenada, it was a bit depressing. Where we were dropped in Ensenada has L.A. prices but with 10,000 six-year olds badgering you for money.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Absolutely great! Got off early and with little resistance.
