Review summary

We enjoyed our four-day cruise to Catalina and Ensenada but decided in the future we would prefer to go back to the seven-day itinerary to Cabo/Mazatlan/PV. The temperatures are warmer for a winter/early spring departure so not having a roof on the adult area pool would be less of an issue.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Used the app for everything, had it all ready, process took literally 5 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We always enjoy the MDR. Only ate at the buffet a few times; no specialty restaurants. I will say Johnny Rockets is good but overpriced but the poolside Mexican place was not very good (luckily it's included).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Only used the adult solarium pool; bummed it was open air with no roof as it was a little too chilly most days when you came out of the water.

Solarium

3 out of 5

The Navigator Solarium adult pool area really needs a roof! Temperatures were chilly the first two days near LA and didn't get much above 65 on the warmest day near Ensenada. Too cold when you're soaking wet from the pool or hot tub.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Saw the ice skating show, the ballroom dance show, and Showgirls show. All were great. Also the jazz concert by the ship's band and it was fantastic!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Great service from everyone we encountered.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Clean and nicely designed (except for not having a roof on the Solarium/adult pool area).

Cabin / Stateroom

This was our first time in 18 cruises NOT having an outside balcony and we missed it. We overlooked the shopping promenade but were too high to really see it. Also heard some music at night, although it wasn't an issue for us and I think it stopped around 11 pm. We kept the curtains closed 24/7 after we saw a naked man across from us on the first day! So having the window really didn't add anything and we missed not seeing the daylight/weather conditions. Storage was adequate as was the bathroom and shower size.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

This was our embarkation/disembarkation port. Seemed fine and getting on and off was smooth.

Catalina Island, California

Gorgeous island. We rented a 4-person golf cart for the two of us and it was $1/minute with a $60 minimum. They pro-rate past one hour so it cost us $70 in all or $35/person. It was fun to drive and allowed us to go way up in the hills to get fantastic views over Avalon and the harbor. We drove by the museum ($18) and the botanic garden ($12) but did not have time to go in either. Also stopped briefly at the old casino/ballroom but did not go in and not sure how much a tour of the building would cost. We did see people showing tickets and going in. The shopping in Avalon seems decent, albeit a little pricey. Did not eat or drink in any of the local restaurants but they looked inviting.

Ensenada, Mexico Did not visit port

Decided to stay on the ship as we were not interested in any of the excursions and no plans to buy anything or bar-hop.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self-carried our own luggage off and got off about 8:30 am. No lines as they used facial recognition instead of having to show your passport.
