Review summary

The cruise schedule does not provide for optimum wildlife viewing, arriving late morning in most cases. This particular cruise was further impacted due to bad weather, causing delayed embarkation and departure from Capetown, an abbreviated stay in Walvis Bay, by-passing Port Elizabeth. The stop in Maputo was a wasted day that could have been better spent as an overnight in two of the other ports.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
TThe ship was delayed from getting into port due to bad weather. People stood for hours. The ship lacked adequate onshore support and lacked contingency planning.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
This was our first time on Nautica but our fifth on Oceania. The smaller ship provided service equivalent to her larger sister ships, Riviera and Marina. The ship soes show the signs of age and is ready for her upcoming makeover.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
While onboard activities are not as plentiful as on the larger ships, the entertainment team did provide a variety of onboard activities. The ship's public areas seamed more spacious (area/passenger) than the larger ships. There were many sea days on this route, but the ship never felt as crowded as the larger sister ships. This spaciousness did not extend into the individual staterooms which are ~ 20% smaller.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was not the highlight of the trip but the musicians were in general very skilled and complimented the atmosphere onboard.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
As previously discussed the common areas ingeneral feel more spacious than the larger ships. But the entertainment venue was crowded and difficult to maneuver in. Unlike the larger sister ships, the Nautica offer an open deck on deck 5.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Significantly smaller than on the larger sister ships. The furniture lacked adequate storage space. The mattress was sagging and need replacement.

Ship tip

Pack light.
