Review summary

We belatedly discovered the great cruise rate we paid was a hook to get people on board the ship. Be prepared to be nickel and dimed to death!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast embarkation because passengers embark and disembark in practically every port of call.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Very disappointed MSC does not provide soft drinks, coffee and tea free of charge with meals other than breakfast. And while we opted to purchase a 3 restaurant specialty dining package, the food was 'special' in 1 out of 3 restaurants. Meals in the main dining room were just okay, but the waitstaff was pleasant.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The headline entertainers were mainly European and English was not their primary language. So it was puzzling and quite jarring to hear them try to sing american pop songs. Most times I was unable to understand what they were saying and this despite knowing words to most of the songs. Additionally, each night's entertainment had a stated theme, yet song choices failed to hew to the them. The entertainment markedly improved when the songs were sung in Italian, Spanish or French. Lastly, song choices and staging was waaay off. For example, The Labelle megahit - Lady Marmalade - about a prostitute and her Johns was immediately followed by a rendition of a gospel song, Hallelujah. And a tune from Phantom of the Opera was followed by Bruno Mars's Uptown Funk. Jarring, confusing and amateur enough to be laugh-out-loud comical.

Restaurant and Spa staff and service was great. Our cabin steward was very responsive.

My husband is 6'2" and found the bathroom shower cramped. He took all of his showers in the Aurea Spa shower facilities.

Ship tip

Lovely atrium.
