Review summary

Bottom line. The ship is enormous and beautiful, the room was nicely done and had plenty of room - even the bathroom with a full size shower. The staff was friendly, but overworked and the stress showed on their faces. Guest services had canned answers and it was obvious they were not going to do any compensation equal to what we lost on the ship - that was our sleep. The food really was terrible in our main dinning and specialty restaurants. We will try another cruise line but not a MSC ship for the foreseeable future. About the room - the 16th floor mainly was the Market Buffet since we were right under the Market Buffet we believe the noise was coming from a mechanical device that ran close to our cabin. Given the other issues of food, and not being properly staffed, staff being overworked, rudeness of the guests on board the cruise still gets the same rating.

Embarkation

Initial embarking, the striking size and decor of the ship were all phenomenal! Guest services was mediocre. They had a job to do and they were doing their job is the vibe we got.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food was mediocre at best. The Market Buffet was better than the restaurants. We tried several of the specialty restaurants such as Butchers Cut and we were very disappointed. The food was extremely salty and/or bland. Getting a drink (we had the drink package) was a nightmare at any of the bars. The ship had around 4500 guests and everyone wanted to drink at the same time. The staff could not support the demand and most people shoved their way past you or did whatever it took to be served. We realized sitting in some of the common areas and lounge areas we can wait for staff to serve us, which worked out better.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Pool on deck 18. Long wait and lines at the under staffed bar area. Smoke stack from ship was near and the smoke was over us most of the time.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Main atrium area had performers up on a platform and inaccessible for requests, etc. The shows were okay with the shows getting better towards the end of the cruise.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Staff was overworked and it was apparent in their demeanor. Some were friendly, but it was evident they were overworked, under staffed and dealt with complaints often. Of course, the overall vibe of the guest we had with an International culture aboard seemed to be entitled and rude. We did meet several friendly couples but for the most part making eye contact and trying to have conversations did not go well.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is beautiful and also very large. We had difficulty navigating and trying to figure out where should we spend our time when we were on board and at sea. We had to learn how to best use the elevators and when it was better just to take the stairs.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our first cruise we selected MSC Seascape. The ship is beautiful and the destinations are too! We booked a balcony room mid-ship on the 15th floor. Initial embarking, the striking size and decor of the ship were all phenomenal! The first night in the cabin our sleep was interrupted every hour or so by what sounded like a a large sump pump with air restricted so it resembled a horn. When it was time to get up and enjoy the day we were optimistic that the noise was just a one-off experience and we would not hear it again. The following night - the same every hour at times every 30 minutes a horn like sound would go off lasting from 3 to 30 seconds and waking us up from our sleep. That day our second day on the ship I called guest services explained the issue they said they would look into it. That night the noise was still present - we called and this time they sent a person to the room asking if the people had stopped running in the halls. For whatever reason guest services had categorized the noises we explained in detail as people running in the hallway. I called guest services and said no - this is a mechanical noise occurring at a frequency of every 1/2 hour. On our fourth day on the cruise I called guest services and asked if they will fix the issue - compensate or provide an alternative solution. They said they would send someone up. We mentioned we would be at port on our excursion and to have it looked at then and fixed - they agreed. That night the noise was still present. On the fifth day - we call guest services, we visit the desk of guest services - they said they would get back to us. We heard the noise that night still the following day - the sixth day they offered us 1/2 hour each in the Aurua Spa for a full body message. Usually each person gets an hour so they would split this hour with my wife and I. This was unacceptable as we did not get one night of sleep. We declined what they offered and they were unwilling to offer anything else.
