Review summary

This cruise was a wonderful break, it’s off season up in Canada so it wasn’t crowded and I enjoy exploring on my own. Even though the food and entertainment was not the same quality as previous MSC cruises, even on the Meraviglia, I still think MSC aid a great cruise line for budget and solo travelers. The ship is very clean and the staff are welcoming and helpful. I’m excited for my next cruise vacation!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Only ate in the MDR a few nights, most of the food was over cooked, over or under seasoned. The waitstaff was very nice . The buffet was terrible, no variety, again food was over cooked or under seasoned. Many foods were dried out or swimming in sauce. The lack of quality and variety was the biggest factor in a lack of enjoyment. The pizza was very good and the morning croissants were good. The coffee is also good.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There are quite a few activities on board that I did and some I did not do. I enjoyed the trivia games, karaoke, there are plenty of parties. I wanted to do the craft activity, origami but it was scheduled to take 2 hours and I didn’t want to spend that much time. The entertainment in the evenings was sparse. The musical groups around the ship were good.Apparently the ensemble cast was new and still practicing so there was a singer, a magic act and a comic only. The crew variety show was the best of the theater shows and I enjoyed that

Did not enjoy the singer or the comic. But the crew variety show was great

Service and Staff

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
My solo cabin was fine, there were connecting doors on both sides but I didn’t hear any noises. There was very little floor space but enough to change clothes. The only issue was that one side of the closet door did not open fully so it was difficult to access the safe or drawers. The electronic porthole is nice and the cabin steward was excellent, my cabin was spotless, I was provided with plenty of towels, even washcloths and tissues

Ports of call

Saint John, New Brunswick

The Saint John City market is a highlight, I really enjoyed it

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Easy to walk the waterfront area on your own, The Maritime museum was ver interesting and the Citadel is beautiful. The town itself is very hilly so wear good walking shoes

Portland, Maine

Not really much to do in port if you don’t do an excursion. Some nice walking areas and trails but not many shops
