Review summary

Overall the Excel ship was very large with the state rooms being way too small. Disembarkation was the worst experience I had on the ship. Not organized at all.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and efficient with no issues. We enjoyed taking our own luggage with us onto the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room food was delicious. Had an issue one sea day brunch where our servers were not very friendly and appeared to be annoyed.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We enjoyed the Spa couples message. Did not enjoy the pushiness of trying to get us to talk to a doctor about our aches and pains and did not appreciate Maria's tone when she assumed she was expected to share the gratutity that was given to her in addition to the prepaid service charge.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We went to some shows and they were great. Only downside is waiting on line and being unable to see some shows due to the crowds. Perhaps a reservation system would be best to ensure those that want to attend can and not have to wait on long lines.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My daughter went to two kids club for teens. She said it was boring and felt left out.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waiter in the MDR one night as Leonardo. You can tell he loved his job an truly appreciated being able to serve us. He was so kind and touched my heart.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean and well maintained. However guests were not so clean leaving their dirty dishes in the hallways with half eaten foods or stairs. It was a safty hazard. Carnival also does not permit mobility carts outside in the hallways since the rooms are very small. There were several on my 15th floor we had to navigae through with dirty dishes placed across these units.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our stewardest was amazing keeping our room clean at all times. Did not like how very tiny the bathroom was, it was difficult to get dressed in the bathroom when you are sharing a room with two other individuals.

Ship tip

One tip I would share is bring your own metal straws. The edible straws are disgusting and makes the drinks taste terrible when they start melting into the drinks.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5
Returning to the port was terrible with security trying to get us to walk away from our shuttle pick up location.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Extremely long board walk to get to the mainland. Not much in Cozumel to do.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the locals and loved the many places to visit.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Terrible. Not organized at all. Everyone was stuck on the 15th floor trying to disembark. The director called Groups A-K which caused such a stop up on the floors with people on lower floors going up and then down. Took over an hour for my entire family to make it down to Deck 6 to Disembrak together. We all had to seperate to get onto the elevator. Carnival needs to do better on this.
