Carnival Mardi Gras needs to do better with their embarkation process, ship cleanliness, unruly passengers (particularly the teenagers), and offer a more extensive buffet. I know that cruise lines can offer different experiences, but what the Mardi Gras compromised on was around safety and security. Going back to Royal for good.
Embarkation

Very disorganized.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

The buffet was NOT good at all. Not much of a variety, the had the same 2 cookies (sugar and chocolate chip) every day that tasted like sandpaper.
Onboard Activities

I only went to the fitness center. It was decent. The pools were over run with children.
Entertainment

Comedy shows were very good.
Service and Staff

Staff were friendly.
Ship Quality

Oh Mardi Gras, you have to do better. This is the main reason that I will never sail with Carnival again. There were only 1-2 sinks to wash your heads before entering the buffet area. 90% of the people walked right by it and did not wash their hands. The tables were wiped down but, not the chairs in the buffet area or the sit down restaurant. Foods items were constantly seen around the ship in hallways, elevators, main areas of the ship. Our suite sofa bed had a urine stain on it which our room attendant acknowledge. He stated that it would be too difficult for him to change the bedding. Not that he could not do it, it was just too hard. WTH?

I only give it 2 stars because I loved the storage in our suite, the black out curtains, extra seating area, and the larger bathroom. Our suite sofa bed had a urine stain on it which our room attendant acknowledge. He stated that it would be too difficult for him to change the bedding. Not that he could not do it, it was just too hard. WTH?
I don’t understand how you can complain about there being too many kids on the ship. It’s the middle of the summer. Kids are out of school.
Also, could you imagine how long the line would be if Carnival made everyone wash their hands before eating in the buffet. That is unrealistic.
It's amazing how those who think cruising is only for them. That's what privilege people believe everything is centered towards them. I was just on the Mardi Gras and didn't see any of those things. I do agree the buffet is lacking and can be better. I brought my on wipes to wipe down my area and gloves to use if I went to the buffet, and if you cruised before Covid-19, people walked past hand washing station every day. Goodbye bye and enjoy your next cruise with your on personal cook, velet, and pool side reservations.
No one on my last Oasis of the Seas or Anthem wiped down the chairs anywhere and 90% of people walked past the hand washing stations too. I found the cleanliness to be comparable on all the different ships I’ve been on. Yes, the buffet is lacking on the Mardi Gras, but there are so many other venues to eat at.
Mardi Gras was easily one of the easiest quickest embarkation processes I’ve been through on a cruise ship. I’d say it was even better than the two times I’ve been on Allure of the seas. Find it hard to believe as well that your room steward wouldn’t change the sheets when asked to.
This really sucks that you had such a disappointing and frustrating experience. I hope you complained to guest services about your trip as the steward response was definitely unacceptable.
Sorry you were disappointed with your cruise. Carnival does request that if you have any dishes, cups, glasses, etc., to set them outside of your room, they have a crew that comes by.
