Review summary

Overall, we had a wonderful time on our cruise. We were very impressed that on a ship the size of the Mardi Gras that was filled to capacity, we did not find it all that difficult to do the things we wanted to do. The staff all around the ship was friendly and efficient.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Used Go Port. We were picked up at our hotel around noon. Arrived at the pier in about an hour. Check-in was quick, easy and we boarded immediately.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Enjoyed all of the non-dining room options on board, but was somewhat disappointed with the food in the main dining room and buffet. We had no problem using the dining feature on the app and found reserving tables to be quite easy.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were crowded as usual, but at least there were several ones to choose from. Serenity area was very nice, and we especially liked the Tides Pool at the back of the Lido Deck. There were a lot of trivia games each day, but they were all over the ship. We enjoy trivia, but didn't want to leave the pool area in order to participate. Bingo was fun, but (as expected) very crowded.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows were just okay. We prefer the Broadway-style musicals and shows featured on other lines. Atrium area gets very crowded. Found it easier to just go to the 7th or 8th floor well before the start time for shows that were taking place there. We enjoyed the entertainment in an around the bars. Each group was different, but they were all very good. Liked the variety of comedians and the number of shows available.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We found the service to be excellent all around. Our room steward was very pleasant and efficient. The waiters in the various restaurants were great, as were the bartenders and servers in the lounges.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We were very impressed with the layout of the ship. Given its size, we expected to be lost a lot of the time, but it didn't take long to get a handle on where things were. More importantly, for a ship this size (and at full capacity), it didn't really feed crowded in many of the venues.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was great. We had a premium interior. It had plenty of room, two closets and lots of storage areas.

Ship tip

If you want to use the pools or see a show, you have to get there early.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Went to Paradise Beach. Had a great day!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Toured the Chacchoben ruins. Had a great tour guide. Found it interesting and informative.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

2 out of 5
Rented chairs/clamshells/floats on beach near the ship (never got the floats). Was not impressed with the beach or facilities and returned to the ship earlier than planned.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We disembarked later than expected, but we found out later that it was because so many people did not have passports. Once we were called, we went directly through to customs area. ea.

The MG was a great ship. We sailed on her to experience it but felt it was just too big with too much congestion
