Just came off the Carnival Mardi Gras. I had high hopes for the ship. My expectations were not met. Unfortunately, my least favorite ship I’ve been on. The layout of the ship & service was not the greatest. I will not be going back on the Mardi Gras.

Review summary

Overall experience was just OK. I’ve been on the carnival Breeze and the Vista, which were unforgettable. Had the service been consistent I would’ve rated my experience much higher and I could’ve gotten over the fact the new ship layout was not the greatest. It’s all about service.

Not up to carnival standards. Barely saw our room stew. Prior cruises through carnival, we were always greeted in the hallway by our room stew almost daily if not multiple times a day. If it was not for IG in the palms dining hall, I would rate this section 1 star. IG was amazing and made our dining experience one to remember. IG saw our entire family every morning at breakfast every afternoon at the bar and every night at dinner, he greeted us by name, made us feel like we were special, and truly made the experience a lot better for us. He is the true Carnival experience & what all service should be like.

Ship Quality

My least favorite ship. The design was horrible and the design was not the greatest. Elevators were always dirty, the hallways smelled horribly and our room was not the cleanest. The theater rooms were always dirty, the carpets should at least be cleaned. It was very surprising for a new ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

The layout was nice, we’ve always gotten suites and or balconies in our prior cruises. However, we barely saw our stew, and I don’t believe our room was fully cleaned prior to arriving.

Ship tip

It would depend. Being one who has been on multiple carnival ships, I would not recommend the Mardi Gras. The carnival breeze and Vista by far have been the best ships I’ve been on.

Appreciate your detailed review. The Mardi Gras has not peaked my interest since I watched a video on the layout. At least you tried it (we aren’t inclined to do so).
