Carnival Mardi Gras is definitely a “fun ship”. There are some needed changes with main dining and shows. But our cabin was great, staff was excellent, drinks were flowing (try the specialty cocktails at Fortune Teller and Alchemy), and the food in the specialty restaurants was good.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was a breeze, even with all vivid requirements. We were on the ship about 15 minutes after our scheduled time. After a few hiccups with VeriFLY we were able to get it to work which helped our boarding process.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Specialty restaurants were excellent, main dining room not so much. The main dining room was crowded, noisy, dark, food was just okay, service was slow. Buffet was ok, not as many choices as on past cruises.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Was looking forward to riding Bolt but it was shut down for a few days and booked solid. Couldn’t book any of the classes we wanted because those were booked.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Shows were just okay. M Theory was really bad and hokey.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room steward was excellent. Staff overall was great, once you said your name they knew it. Always smiling, very friendly.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Not any trash barrels that I could see and no locations for leaving dirty dishes had some people just leaving it wherever. Staff did the best they could to keep it clean. Wasn’t thrilled with the layout, center stage had huge beautiful windows but then they were covered up during the voyage. Shops are split among 3 floors.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Loved our cabin. Right in the middle of the bump out so the balcony was huge with no obstructions to view. Would have preferred bed near the balcony but it worked. Cabin had plenty of storage and was very well designed.
Ship tip
Hit up the salad bar in the Serenity Deck. Not too many people know about it but it had anything you’d want to put in a salad - delicious!
