Sail date: February 13, 2009

Ship: Majesty of the Seas

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The ship was clean, well cared for, and had plenty of amenities. As this was our first cruise ever, we don't have a lot to benchmark our observations against. Overall it was a fantastic 1st experience.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We found out from other cruise passengers that Royal Caribbean is known for having the best food of the cruise liners. It didn't disappoint for the most part. Some desserts were pretty sub-par but even buffet-style food was great.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The singing and dancing team was awful. But the entertainment they brought on board was pretty good for the most part. Some of the musicians in the center of the entry area weren't very good (too many 80s-style synthesizers) but others were good (like the pianist)

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was willing to help - it was tough adjusting to not doing anything myself.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout was nice, wasn't hard to get around, even the stairs weren't particularly painful when we chose to take them

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room (junior suite) was wonderful, and by looking at the boat from the outside we could see how lucky we were to have a balcony.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
The excursion we took away from Nassau to Blackbeard's Cay was great. Clean, well-kept island. However, Nassau itself seems to be deteriorating by all reports. It's dirty and there are guards in every store with products of any value. The offers from drug dealers didn't help the ambiance either.
Don't Miss: Blackbeard's Cay - anything there.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

5 out of 5
They have developed this island well. The activities are great and the island is clean and peaceful. The excursions/tours/activities are fun as well.
Don't Miss: Waverunner tours

Pros: The food, the excursions, the people

Cons: Constant reminders about tipping
