Review summary

Tried to rate the port of calls but did not open. Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan are all basically landlocked ports so expect high prices. Excursions are expensive but the Glacier/whale watching and salmon bake in Juneau was a great experience. Do not recommend the White rail train in Skagway - especially with the best part of the ride closed down. Also do not recommend the local trolley to the small waterfall at the end of the island that stops at a salmon stream (they were not noteworthy) as there is much more to see in town, do the in town trail instead for free. Salmon are running in August so that is amazing to see. Cruise ship was nice and the crew is very friendly. Internet was not very good. The touchless Medallion that you wear around your neck replaces the old cruise card for totally touchless cruise experience with purchases, accessing rooms and getting on and off the ship (also serves as traceability for COVID exposure if it wear to happen from what I was told). Passengers were good about wearing mask and were reminded by the crew if they forgot - policy for the elevators of no more than 6 generally was ignored. Use the stairs if you can. There were no illnesses on our cruise that we were aware of for the second week of August. We were told the ship would be at 57% capacity but it was at 95%. What is good about sailing now is we were the only cruise ship in each port versus the normal four so we had each location to ourselves without the huge crowds.

Embarkation

Was an easy, straight forward and fast process

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The ship was nice, very clean with recent renovations and not too large. Has around 5000 on board with passengers and crew. Food was great but takes getting used to being served in the buffet area. Sometimes there was a delay in bringing silverware and drinks. It rains a lot in Alaska so outdoor activities can be limited.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
They have a nice fitness center and decent outdoor activities - it isn't a huge ship so some of the activities are limited. Movies under the Stars is nice but it rained almost every night. THey have nice shows with live music. Highly recommend the naturalist presentations on Alaska and native Americans.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Good variety of entertainment with live music, singing and dancing, magician and comedian.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I have done about 15 cruises and this staff was among the best - very friendly and engaging.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was very clean and nicely decorated. Only negative with this ship and most cruise vessels is passengers generally need to walk through the casino which is filled with smoke (even with mask required) to transition from dining to the shows. Smoke free would make this five stars.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice cabin overall but would rather have a couch versus a desk and chair as this is a vacation rather than a business trip. The bed is not the most comfortable. Cabin was very clean.

Ship tip

Bring a rain coat and bring your binoculars

Disembarkation

We opted for the early 0715 walk off with our bags to catch a 0915 flight. THere was some confusion with three lines that formed and some people were losing their patience but it all worked out and we took a Lyft ride to the airport and arrived in plenty of time.
