Review summary

Overall the cruise was better than we expected. After reading poor reviews we were a bit put off but we did get good value for money as it wasn’t an expensive holiday. The ship was clean, the food good and we found things to do if we wanted and we saw he northern lights, Hurray!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was ok, soon got through the queues.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We dined in the Kensington which was very good, we could have a seven course meal every night if we wanted, which included starter, soup, salad, main, dessert, cheese and biscuits and coffe or tea. Meals were of a a very good standard. Our waiters, Thiah and Chan were lovely guys. Absolutely no complaints. Didn’t use the speciality restaurants. The buffet was very good, something for everyone.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We did lots of quizzes which we enjoyed. We also attended a demonstration of fruit and vegetable carving which was amazing.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainment was average, the ships company were young and enthusiast and produced a good variety of different fun shows. The theatre was also used as a cinema and we saw some good current films.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were generally first rate, helpful and polite. Our waiters in the dining room,Thiah and Chan, were great guys and made our meals very enjoyable. our cabin steward, Paing, cabin 7072, was very helpful and efficient.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
We found our way around the ship quite easily, it was clean and well maintained, with people cleaning all the time on the stairs and in the toilet areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was clean and well kept with comfortable beds. We were surprised by the size of the bathroom which was larger than I’ve had on previous cruise lines, with plenty of clean towels every day. Our cabin steward, Paing, was really friendly and very helpful.

Ship tip

Don’t expect too much for the price paid. I think we got good value all round for the cost of the trip.

Ports of call

Liverpool, England

4 out of 5
We didn’t do an excursion but, as we arrived a little early, had a meal on the Albert dock which is walking distance from the ship. As it was pouring with rain we didn’t get any further than this.

Thorshaven

4 out of 5
We did an excursion in Thorshaven during which we had a walking tour around the old part of town with a very good guide. We then visited a natural history museum and a small marine life aquarium. All very interesting.

Klaksvik, Faroe Islands Did not visit port

Couldn’t call at this port because of bad weather.

Akureyri, Iceland

4 out of 5
The excursion we chose in this port of call was the Goorfoss waterfall and a leisurely trip around the town. it was interesting to see the different coloured houses and the beautiful scenery with just a dusting of the first snowfalls of the season.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
Hurray, the northern lights actually showed themselves to us on the trip from Akureyri to Reykjavik, not a spectacular display but I did get some reasonable photos. We were in Reykjavik for 2 full days and did a golden circle full day tour which was very good. Calling first at the geysers and had a delicious buffet lunch then on to the spectacular waterfalls and calling at the botanical gardens on the way back. Very good trip. If you want to go into the city by the shuttle bus it costs just over £14.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

5 out of 5
Went into town on the free shuttle bus and booked to visit the Titanic museum on the open top bus at the tourist information. Got off at the museum which was amazing spent a good 2 hrs there then back on the bus for a very informative tour around all the main attractions. Very good.

Dublin, Ireland

3 out of 5
went into the town but didn’t get very far, it was pouring with rain so after a coffee and cake in a cafe we returned to the ship.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and efficient and our transport for our onward journey was waiting on the dockside so it was perfect.
