Review summary

We loved the size of the ship. All of the recent dry dock renovations were beautiful and added greatly to our overall pleasure. All of the crew were friendly, personable and more than accomodating to our every need. We felt a personal relationship with many of them. The beds were very comfortable and beautifly made up. State room was maintained superbly. The shows were diverse and all were excellent. We are definately looking forward to cruising with Holland America again. Probably next year.

Waste of time was our tour "Fort Trumbull & Coast Guard Acadamy" We felt the tour company was not adequately prepared. We had a minor accident on our but - Driver drove under an overpass that was not tall enough to clear and he proceeded on through tearing out some of the roof causing all sorts of stuff to fall on our heads including insulation and broken plexiglass. The Coast Guard Acadamy was not expecting us. The ship excursion director did credit our account for one ticket, but we probably would not care to repeat a visit there.

We did not book a cruise offered tour but did take a horse drawn buggy ride and tour that was very interesting and informative. Also dined in a local restaurant that had been recomended by our children as a "must do". We felt out day there was perfect. The ship did not offer many tours but we were okay with that.
Don't Miss: Our's was dinner at the Magnolia restaurant.

Made the best of our time there - walked to Central Park and thru Times Square. We did the Circle Cruise aroung Manhattan and found that to be a great way to see New York as a first time visiter. Wished we had more time there but absolutely enjoyed every thrill the day offered. Cruise Excursions did not offer many choices for New York.
Don't Miss: Circle Cruise

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Our "Heart of Halifax" tour was great. Had a lovely walk in a beautiful city park and a great tour guide. We were becoming a little weary of visiting forts though and will take this into consideration when we visit again. We did get an overall good look at this beautiful city and enjoyed our day very much.
Don't Miss: City Park

Beautiful city and tour. Got to do some walking and some riding and we were able to get a feel of the area and enjoy the brisk weather and sights.
Don't Miss: Walk thru the lower city and visit to Chateau Frontenac Hotel. Time limited there.

We went to the Navy Base and were glad we did. It was a great tour and very informative. Had a wonderful tour guide who was very knowledgable and interesting. We did book this trip through the ship excursions office
Don't Miss: Navy Base

Newport, Rhode Island

Our 1-1/2 hour tour was just the right length of time to get an overall view of the grand homes and beauty of the area. We also had ample time to try the local cusine and do a little shopping.

Bar Harbor, Maine

We did not book a tour thru the cruise line but did pick up a trolly tour to Acadia National Park and it was very satisfactory. Had a great seafood lunch in one of the local pubs and found Bar Harbor to be a great walking spot and beautiful.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

Had a tour to Alexander Graham Bell Museum which we found very informative and a beautiful drive thru the countryside. Spent the morning taking a "brisk" walk in the cool, damp air. It was lovely.
Don't Miss: We loved the Museum but did not do any other tours so that has to be our favorite

Pros: The ship, personel, laid back atmosphere, shows and

Cons: having it all end
