Liberty of the Seas

5 Night Bermuda (Cape Liberty Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 05, 2023

Ship: Liberty of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Review summary

Did not really have a good time. The ship was at capacity with lots of kids and rowdy young adults. That just added to the other ship issues. I knew prior to booking that the ship wasn't amp-ed, so I thought my expectations were realistic. Very disappointed. Looking forward to my next cruise on Oasis of the Seas

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We purchased The Key, which allotted us an early arrival time. Embarkation was quick and easy. Very little wait time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
My Time Dining, even with reservations, was pure chaos. They could not handle the amount of people trying to enter the dining room. There was absolutely no crowd control. The crowd jammed into both banks of the elevators. This happened every night. Service was slow, which appeared to be problems in the kitchen, not the wait staff. Many food portions were small, and one entree was still frozen in the middle. Went to Windjammer once for breakfast - it was ok. Johnny Rockets was good. Price didn't include beverages. Room service for breakfast was good. Purchasing soda and non-alcoholic beverage packages was a waste of money. There are no soda kiosks, so to get soda, you had to find a bar which had soda available.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The venue for bingo was too small. We arrived 15 min before the cards went on sale. There was absolutely nowhere to sit. I left because of this. Was able to book a massage at the spa, which was glorious.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Music/DJs, parades, and parties were great. The ice show was enjoyable. The comedic juggler was so corny you had to laugh. Saturday Night Fever was showcased only on the last night. Couldn't see all of it because showtimes conflicted with dinner time.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My grandniece wasn't interested in Adventure Ocean. She loved the arcade and splash way bay.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Except for one very snarky crew member trying to sell me a specialty dining package, the ship personnel, cabin steward, guest services, and wait staff were wonderful.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship needs to be amp-ed. Very outdated. 2 elevators were out of service for the entire cruise. Cabin balcony glass was not clean. Playing cards/game pieces were missing from the card/game room. In spite of this, the ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Balcony was really small, and the glass was not clean. Cabin was clean. Bed was very firm and uncomfortable. Slept on the sofa, which was more comfortable, a few nights

Ports of call

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

3 out of 5
Bermuda is always nice to visit. Snorkel Park Beach, which is in walking distance from the ship, is not bad. It's a little pricey, not as pretty as other beaches, and gets crowded. But it has a DJ, restrooms, bar, eatery, and bouncy area for kids. Taxis to other beaches were $7/person. Scenic St. George tour was awful. Ferry was very late. Once we finally arrived at our destination, the mini-vans, which were supposed to be there, left. Had to wait 20 mins for the mini-vans to pick us up.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Had The Key. Hubby had to track down the host to seat us. Breakfast was enjoyable. Disembarkation was easy.

Responding to njerzymike: The Key benefits I enjoyed are: priority embarkation, Chops Grill welcome lunch, internet, reserved seating at shows, "disembark at your leisure " breakfast.

My Time Dining has ruined the dining experience for everyone. The MDR runs efficiently when they have two set dining times and set dining tables. Letting guests come willy nilly results in pure chaos. They need to get rid of this system and go back to set dining in the MDR. Flexible dining should be restricted to the buffet and specialty restaurants.

I will be on LOS for the New England cruise in a couple of weeks. I also purchased The Key for this cruise. I noticed you mentioned you had it as well. What other benefits of it did you utilize on LoS? Thanks in advance. First time I’ve purchased it.
