Review summary

The worst part is waiting in line to get on as I have a bad back/knees. It's quite a long wait but not nearly as long as a Carnival ship is! RCCL also provides water to you while in line which means a lot on a hot, August Texas day. Carnival did not. The food, activities and staff were amazing!! The bed and linens were so soft and comfortable. Only thing that stuck with me were the angry, non smoking passengers telling me not to smoke in the smoking area of the casino! They have become extremely overly aggressive. Please, stay out of smoking areas if you don't like smoke. I blow it away from anyone sitting next to me (I'm extremely polite)..But I STILL get angry people telling me to put cigarette out - it's " bothering" them. In the future, I will be replying by reminding them that it's a smoking area - they are welcome to leave.

Embarkation

Embarkation could have gone a bit faster but employees were all smiles with drinks ready for us as we waited in line.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Everything was wonderful. I often liked the evening buffet for more options. I understand they have closed it due to Covid and only perhaps 1/2 full sailings. Yet, they serve lunch buffet and bfast there too. Sounds like a $$$ cutback. Not happy at all with this. Always looked forward to the tender oxtail and seafood pizza at evening buffet (not available in the MDR). Will be a huge let down if/when I return.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Plenty to choose from.

Entertainment

Comparable to other lines.

Children's Programs

Have no children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
They were usually pretty good but could be slow or hard to find on casino floor. One man paid a waiter $100 up front to make sure he kept coming back to get his orders. For me personally, I found overall - they were very friendly; just understaffed. All other staff were fabulous. Always smiling and helpful. Lots of very seasoned professionals. Many went out of their way to help. Only other issue I saw were a bunch of young men (employees) sitting around the dock doing nothing while there were many elderly ladies who needed assistance.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
All very clean with the exception of the cafe/coffee shop late at night. Those sandwiches in there were very questionable (having sat there at room temperature far too long). Desserts and cookies in there pretty awful too. Only place on ship I would not eat. Layout of ship good. All other areas clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable cabin and excellent steward. Could not have been better!

Ship tip

You will love this ship and it's wonderful, smiling staff. You can see that they truly enjoy what they do.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Just an embarkation port. Don't see it as anything else

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
One of the best, safest places you can go in Mexico. Recommend Nachi Cocum. Cannot book with Royal. Must book online ahead with about $11 refundable deposit. Best spot on the island.

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
It was ok but I would not have to return here.

Falmouth, Jamaica Did not visit port

Did not get off at this port. Had been told it's very dangerous here.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick (though crowded) getting off ship.
