Enjoyed Royal Caribbean more than Carnival due to better food, service and entertainment.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Got to the port around 11:15 and had about a 15 minute wait to get thru the door.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Thought the food at all dining choices were excellent. We did the buffet, main dining room, Chops Grille and Giovanni's Table. Our favorite was Chops Grille.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Only spent time at the pools, which were pretty crowded.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Performances were excellent, singing not so good. Didn't particularly care for the hypnotist/comedian. Ice show was excellent.
Children's Programs
Grand children did not participate in any of the available programs.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff were courteous, helpful and professional.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Will need to take another cruise to see the rest of the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Four of us stayed in this mini suite and we never felt cramped. My wife and two grandchildren enjoyed the balcony.
Ship tip
Be patient and enjoy. Elevators can be annoying due to the crowds.
Went to Playa Mia. Booked direct with them for the cheapest rate ($110.00, no food or drinks). Caught a taxi for $20 (including tip) each way. This is for 2 adults and 2 kids. Would do this again.
We were an hour late getting into GC, so after catching the last assigned tender we were on land around 11am. Walked to the Discount Excursions hut, paid them $25 each and went directly to a waiting van, filling the last 4 seats, for a 2 hour city tour. Couldn't ask for a better timing. Went to the turtle farm, hell and 7 mile beach.
Booked directly through Ahhh...Ras Natango Gallery and Garden, including roundtrip transportation. Beautiful gardens and well worth the hour drive. Interesting story of how they built their house and gardens. This was our 2nd time visiting them, but this time enjoyed a true Jamaican lunch cooked by Tamika. Beautiful hand painted artwork in thier gallery as well.
Pretty much any major cruise line will be better than cruising on Carnival. Carnival is a cheap party ship, with little class. It's not bad for a cruise line, but if you want something memorable, skip Carnival and cruise on PCL, NCL, or RCCL.
