Review summary

We had a blast! Will be doing another cruise in the future. The staff, the ship, the excursions, the shows, everything was top quality. The best part was how friendly and open the staff was, including us a birthday surprise for another guest, etc.

Embarkation

Very smooth and pleasant embarkation. Only hang up was that a train stopped in front of our shuttle and blocked traffic for 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining room is not only lovely but provides absolutely wonderful food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other reviews said the portions are small so order as much as you want. I found that the appetizers and desserts were small, but the entrees were large portions, much bigger than I'm used to eating. The steak at the Chops Grille is exceptional and having that for lunch on the first day was a delightful start to our trip. The buffet had a vast selection of items for breakfast, but we didn't go there for other meals. We enjoyed the pizza at Sorrentos, very good and cheesy, and practically lived at the Cafe Promenade as my companions are coffee drinkers. Very good pastries. My diabetic friend was able to get sugar free desserts in the main dining room, the Windjammer, Sorrentos Pizza, and the Cafe Promenade. They did not have sugar free at Chops Grille and we did not visit Sabor or Giovannis.

Onboard Activities

I traveled with two friends. One of my friends and I have very active jobs where we are on our feet 8-10 hours per day. For us, enjoying the large deck on our stateroom, people watching in the Promenade, enjoying the hot tub, doing some scrapbooking in the card room, and occasionally joining in a dance party...these were wonderfully relaxing options for us. Of course, we did not take elevators more than twice in the entire week.

Entertainment

I was completely amazed by the level of talent on the ship. Especially the ice skating. I'm still astounded by the fact that they do incredible lifts and spins and jumps while on a moving, sometimes rocking ship!!! We also saw the In the Air show and again were amazed. For this show though I would suggest that RC work on the sound a bit. Although we could hear the music and voices we couldn't really understand the words. Of course, this could be because they were all in the air doing amazing acrobatics! Although I don't personally care for the storyline of Saturday Night Fever, the talent again was astounding. Especially when you consider that the lead performer had to be taken to the hospital for surgery and the understudy had to go on, which meant all the roles had to change. etc. The did an exceptional, seamless job.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our cabin steward Sam was pleasant, accommodating, and kept our cabin spotless. The wait staff Mark and Bharat were exceptional. Mark not only provided excellent service, he gave us tips on what to do/watch for during the cruise, laughed with us, took pictures of us, and remembered our preferences. Since the wait staff serves up to 700 people 4x per day, that's amazing! Marie and Felipe at the guest services desk were always kind and efficient no matter what strange question we came up with. Nidhee in the Logo shop was always sweet and kind and never did high pressure selling, consequently we kept going back to her and bought more than intended! I also want to give a shout out to the two Jamaican women who were cleaning cabins on deck 7. I didn't catch their names, but oh my gosh! They kept us laughing and singing and dancing in the aisles whenever we passed them.

Ship Quality

Everything was very clean, the layout was well done and we especially liked the wall maps that allowed us not only to see where we were, but where we wanted to go, what the venues were offering, the day's Cruise Compass, and the menu at the restaurants.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were three friends traveling on our first cruise. We chose a corner aft balcony cabin and were quite comfortable there. There were two twin beds and a twin bed sized pullman bed. The bathroom was adequate with a larger counter than I anticipated and hidden shelving behind a mirror. There was also a clothesline in the shower which came in handy for drying swimsuits. The corner balcony was the star. It was very large and we could each sit out there with room to spare. You could probably fit 10 people out there if you wanted to.

Ship tip

If money/time is limited spend it doing the things you couldn't do anywhere else.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

We didn't do anything in this port. The rating is for Moody Gardens Resort where we stayed the night before the cruise, valet parked our car and took the shuttle to and from the port.

Cozumel, Mexico

We planned a beach day at Playa Mia and enjoyed it, but it rained most of the time. Nothing that could be done about that. Playa Mia would be a fun place to visit on a nice day and the people were friendly and helpful. We didn't do the buffet, but chose from their restaurant menu and had a very good meal at a very good price.

George Town, Grand Cayman

We did the Pedro St. James and Turtle Center tour. Pedro St. James has some very interesting history/culture and beautiful views. At the turtle center we got to snorkel with the turtles! We had a blast!

Falmouth, Jamaica

We did the Go Native Jamaica tour. We were able to see the real Jamaica. Our tour guide was exceptional and we got see a church, a school where we got to meet the kids and they sang for us, and then had a real Jamaican meal on a hilltop farm. Delicious!

Disembarkation

RC's disembarkation was fine. Very smooth. Customs was a lot more confusing.
