Review summary

The refurbishment of Liberty of the Sea was a great success. The additions and changes were very nice.

Chop's was outstanding for a shipboard restaurant. However, Giovanni's was not as good as the old Portafino. The menu choices were not very good and the appearance lacked the style of Portafino.

We did not sample Sabor, the Mexican restaurant because the menu items did not appeal to us. We are accustomed to Tex Mex and the fare at Sabor's was not appealing.

One highlight was the Spanish guitarist at Boleros Tequila Bar. He was outstanding and we visited the bar several times to hear him.

We booked this cruise to celebrate our 53rd anniversary and notified Royal Caribbean of our anniversary. The only recognition of our special event was a card from our cabin attendant and a note from the boutique to buy some jewelry. The ships customer relations did not acknowledge our special event. When I went to to customer relations and asked why nothing was done, they stated hey had a special package for a fee and that was all. Finally the agent offered us a bottle of wine, which turned out to a rather cheap bottle of white wine. So much for our celebration. We went to Chop's on our anniversary and they provide us a free dessert and a great meal.

This was the first time we were on a ship as large as the Liberty of the Sea. The state room was a typical Royal Caribbean balcony stateroom. The choice of TV news channels was limited to CNN and HLN which were intermittant as the ship transited the Caribbean Sea.. I would have like to see Fox News or some other news outlet. The main theater did not appear to be as large as other ships we have been on. With 3700 people on the ship it was difficult to get a seat to see the shows.

While the Liberty of the Sea is a beautiful ship with great venues, 3700 people is too many for us. The crowds boarding and disembarking was to much. We prefer smaller ships with fewer people, say around 2000.

Theater appeared to be smaller than other ships. With 3700 people on board it was difficult to find a seat. Shows we were able to see were quite good.

Children's Programs

We did not have any children with us, However, it appeared the kids we saw enjoyed the kids facilities.

A typical RCCL balcony cabin. The bed was quite hard and we asked the cabin attendant for a foam topper which RCCL had previously provided. She stated RCCL doesn't provide them anymore. However, she provide folded comforters to soften up the bed which did help. TV news in our cabin was limited to CNN and HLN which was intermittant. It would have been nice to have other choices such as Fox News, etc..
