Review summary

Cruise could have been better. There were a limited number of activities, and the entertainment was okay at best. Our first cruise was on the Oasis of the Seas, which set a precedent. This ship was definitely not to be compared to the Oasis, which I am sure plays a major role in our disappointment. My husband and I have agreed that we will never sail on the Legend of the Seas again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food quality was okay for the most part; limited number of restaurants (2) and variety of food choices, unless you want to pay extra, which only provides two additional restaurants.

Onboard Activities

Seriously limited number of activities; thus, the majority of the ship's passengers were seniors.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Approximately 50% of the entertainment was okay; the other 50% made you ask "why"

Service and Staff

5 out of 5

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Quality was fine-mattress was hard and pillows were flat.

Ship tip

The Legend of the Seas may be okay for first time cruisers, although if this was our first and only cruise, I may not cruise again.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

1 out of 5
Our bus was stationed at the border for three hours with a toilet that did not flush. The border patrol personnel took our passports and we sat for three hours waiting for clearance to continue to the ship.

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Excellent-real Hawaiian. Toured the Mauna Loa factory; Akaka Falls, Rainforest Zoo and a fresh produce market via Hoppa On, Hoppa Off bus tours..wonderful!

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Shopping and great restaurants.

Lahaina, Maui

5 out of 5
Toured the Iao Needle and went to a Luau...wonderful!

Nawiliwili, Kauai

3 out of 5
May be better, although since we did not have a tour, the ship was not located in a scenic area...

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
Pearl Harbor-can I say more! Very educational and blessed to have the opportunity to see and discover more about December 7, 1941.

No I don't take everyone's opinion to heart as I have stayed in my places round the world and some of the really horrid places were the best memories! It's my 40th birthday as we sail so nothing will go that wrong!!

My first ever cruise will be on Legend in March. I certainly agree with comments about complaints that its only negatives that are mentioned and never positives which is a shame. Everybody likes to be commended for a job well done. I have read a lot about the Legend and am really looking forward to it. I am sure it won't be the last cruise with Royal.

Just done a 5 night cruise on The legion of the seas. It was an underwhelming experience. The ship really is showing its age with this 1990s decor in most areas and plenty of painted rust. The food was plentiful but of average quality. The Wi-Fi on board was handy for general surfing but forget trying to play the lowest quality video. All the staff are fantastic.

Rhapsody of the seas is the same class ship and looking at all our past rccl cruises this was our most enjoyable.

I really hope so 😩iv just booked HK - Brisbane for next October and now looking at ALL the terrible reviews on cruise critic I'm really panicking and considering canceling . How does the legend compare with mariner of the seas? . Does anyone know ?That was our first experience cruising and we loved it.

tamcraiglachy, Cruise ships are like hotels, generally there will be more negative reviews than positive because people rush to complain but are much slower to praise a good experience!

We were Celebrity Century from Singapore to Dubai which was it's second last cruise, there were previous comments about a tatty run down ship with poor staff however our experience was exactly the opposite!  The staff were excellent, the food was good and the quality of the ship for an older ship was very good.

In our experience some people simply havfe negative outlooks and spend more time looking for things to complain about than they do having a holiday!  That said of course individuals can have a bad experience but our experience in over 25 years of international travel is that really bad experiences are few!  Basically a holiday is what you make it!
