Review summary

This is a beautiful ship. Eventhough she is about to go into dry dock for refurbishing, she is still very beautiful and well maintained. Everything was always clean, and the crew seemed to take great pride in keeping her that way. After sailing on a frumpy Holland American ship that was about the same vintage, we really appreciated the money and care that had been taken to keep this vessel ship-shape.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The quality of food was excellent. It was comparable to other cruise lines who advertise

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We have cruised on many other lines\, and we find the entertainment on RD is the best. Being musicians ourselves\, we really appreciate the live 9-piece band. Most other lines have gone with more canned music to cut costs. Each night was something different\, so the variety made for an interesting cruise. The Cruise Director and Activities Director were terrific.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff were always warm and friendly. They made this cruise seem like it was new and fresh\, eventhough they had repeated the same duties for up to 9 months straight. The staff took a real interest in the special desires of each passenger. The wait staff were incredible.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything is very accessible. We have sailed on much larger ships and have found we prefer this size class best. The public areas are very beautiful. We especially liked the art in the staircases.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The stateroom was adequate. We spend very little time in our stateroom on a cruise\, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom worked for us. The closet space was a bit minimal compared with Princess ships. The room was always impeccably clean and well maintained by our wonderful cabin stewardess.

Pros: We loved the smaller size of the ship. This saves lots of time when getting from place to place.

Cons: We found the art program to be our least favorite aspect of the cruise. The art director didn't seem as knowledgable as diresctors we have seen on other ships. The available art was sub-par.
