Review summary

Independence of the seas is the sister ship of Freedom and Liberty of the seas. This is the first time since being upgraded that we have been on Independence, previously we have been enjoying Freedom of the Seas. Overall the ships are very similar but the service in my view was better on Freedom but I look forward to trying Liberty in November.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
During our cruise we only spent a few days using the main dinning room and that was enough for us. Sadly our servers were just not up to par. They were not very attentive and we were left needing refills, never served bread, and also sitting with empty dirty dishes surrounding our main dish as we ate. Our table became over crowded quickly. They did not interact with the children or us very much and almost rushed us through. We have had the opposite interactions on previous cruises and always loved the extra above and beyond customer service we are use to on Royal and was disappointed with this cruise on that part. But overall the food was good, not the best though. Windjammer was good overall, it is your typical upscale buffet. We enjoyed breakfast there and a few lunches. Izumi was fabulous though, the service was on point and the food was delicious with huge portions. Our kids love the dinner and show concept and we look forward to doing it again. Don't skip the sushi, it was fantastic.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment on the ship was good overall, the kids loved the splash away bay on the ship as well, we spent our day in nassau there and it was not crowded and super enjoyable even for us adults. The Arcade while large, many of the games were broken and there is no attendant so any issues you had would need to be brought up to the service desk which lets be honest no one has time for while on vacation haha. Our son got to enjoy the jump pad but sadly the VR system was overheated but he still enjoyed his time there. Another fun activity is the mini golf, it was so hot though on the day we left so we only played one round but it was cute and easy to navigate.

Entertainment

Ice skating show is a must, entertaining for both adults and kiddos. It was so amazing the talent they have on board for all the shows.

Adventure Ocean

The kids programs are something we have always loved about Royal as the education behind the adults supervising makes up feel confident and safe leaving out kiddos with them. They always have so much fun and look forward to using them in our future cruises.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin is a ultra spacious ocean view, we picked it due to the design of having two bedrooms without having a suite. The kids have their own bunkroom with a door with a good amount of space and then a living room and bathroom separates us in our master bedroom. There is so much storage and lots of windows. We enjoyed the space and separation.
