Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
We informed Royal’s Special Needs department about our daughter’s dietary needs (celiac disease, strict gluten free diet) and got a confirmation. In addition we emailed the concierge and he confirmed that he informed Coastal Kitchen. Turns out that on our first dinner the kitchen had not been informed and they and we had a huge problem finding something safe for our daughter to eat. Spoke to the restaurant manager and he assured that it will be better the next day. Same struggle with breakfast the next day. Spoke to the Maitre D’ and he told us that due to the menu change the kitchen is no longer allowed to prepare something off the menu. They can adapt the menu for allergies, but nothing more can be done. Now the choices for guests with allergies are very limited. He told us to fill in the questionnaire at the end of the cruise to let Royal know, because a lot of guests were struggling with the new policy and their dietary needs. Our daughter got very sick two days later due to gluten ingestion caused by cross contamination and had to be treated in the medical facility onboard. Not once did the restaurant manager or the concierge ask about her. We also ended up paying for the treatment, because, as stated by Royal, her illness was not food related. Apart from that, the overall food quality was noticeably better now. breakfast

Chops Grille

Food was really good and the restaurant is very nice.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Very crowded and lots of drunk people

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We booked the shows early and were so able to seen them all. The venues were never crowded although everything was completely full on the app. Shows were good and entertaining. Highly recommend the aqua show and “I skate”.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Most of the staff seemed stressed. Room steward had a lot of rooms to attend and was constantly working. Staff cut backs were very visible in the housekeeping department.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Design and layout of the ship is very good. We loved Central Park and the open design. Sadly the public areas were not very clean. Food on the stairs, plates and dirty towels in the hallway, restrooms often dirty and smelly.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Due to the cut backs our suite was not ready until 2 pm and it was only superficially clean. Waited for our suitcases until 5pm. Overall the Grand Suite was spacious and well equipped. Nice balcony and good location.

Ship tip

Book your entertainment early and bring lots of gluten free snacks if you are celiac

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Went to the beach and enjoyed the sun and the ocean. Lots of very pushy vendors. Port was busy with 5 ships.

Miami, Florida

First time we experienced the new Royal Caribbean terminal. Looks very nice and functional.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

First time visit and we liked it a lot. Went snorkeling just of the beach at Chill Island and we saw plenty of fish. Huge stingray showed up and wowed us all. Wonderful experience.

Disembarkation

As the embarkation - quick and easy
