Review summary

It was a wonderful cruise! More laid back than on bigger ships, more relaxed. Great shows and activities too. This is was I was looking for and Grandeur delivered! The ship was nicer and better than I was thinking before cruising on her.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I had "The Key", I arrived at the port at 10:30 and by 11:00 I was onboard. Grandeur being a smaller ship, It looks smooth boarding for everyone.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food at the MDR was excellent! Better than my last RC cruise on the Mariner of the seas. Great improvement! As for the buffet, it was good, but not as good as MDR.

Great Gatsby Dining Room

4 out of 5

Great food, great staff! The only complaint I mentionned was the way they handle "My Time Dinning". As per last time on the Mariner, same long line ups, the very first day all dinning allotments were fully booked for the whole cruise. Therefore, I had to queue to the "no reservation" line. After waiting sometimes up to 30 min. I was given a beeper to wait another 20 min! Sorry Royal, but after trying "my time dinning" on NCL, Carnival and Holland, they do way better. NCL are the best, cause it's freestyle dinning for everybody. Canival you can select on their app "have a table ready for me" and within max 10 min you get an answer and a table ready. Next time on Royal, I'll choose 1st seating. So for sure I will have a table.

Cabin / Stateroom

I had cabin 3518, oceanview. Decent size, no fridge, bathroom looks newer. It's an older ship, but It does the job. Very quiet area in front of the ship. I slept like a baby.

Ship tip

I really enjoyed that cruise and ship! I know, she is older but well kept! The main reason I've chosen that ship was because of its large sundeck. I love sunbathing. No waterslides, no go carts, no roller coaster or laser tag here. Therefore, there is a lot of open air space to enjoy! Chairs were always available. Poolside tend to be more busy like on all ships, but up front or back or on the sides, always empty chairs to find! Love it!

Ports of call

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Labadee is one of my prefered port! Great beaches, nice surroundings, lush tropical vegetation and safe. My second time there. I'm French speaking, so it's also great to speak with the locals in French mixed with creole. Love it!

The Great Gatsby Dinning Room, beautiful! The Atrium cabin 3518 Nelly's beach! Don't miss Colombus cove too😉

Joshovermyer you will love the Lady G! We’ve cruised on her 5 or 6 times and it feels like home. We’d still be on her but she abandoned Baltimore!

Thanks for the detailed review! I'm excited to try Grandeur on Feb 5 and March 24 (the 5-night and 9-night itineraries, respectively)

Thank you for your review. We will be on her after our Odyssey cruise next month. We are hoping to relax and sunbathe on Grandeur after all the activities of the larger/newer ship, and it looks like relaxation is exactly what we can expect. 🙂

Glad you enjoyed it. I prefer the smaller older ships that don’t feel like you’re cruising in an amusement or water park.
