Review summary

Really enjoyed our time onboard. The staff works hard but their sincere service and willingness to assist with any and everything was superior to other cruises we have been on. Would absolutely sail with them again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
As you would expect. No major challenges and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
My Time dining needs help. Pro tip: the minute you board the My Royal app will tell you reservations are not available, no matter what day you try. Go to Guest Services and they will get you taken care of. Service was inconsistent in main dining room. Food was well prepared and hot upon arrival so no challenges there. Izumi is the star of the show by far. Beautiful space, attentive staff and wonderful food. Try the “Spicy Okinawa” cocktail! Chops was intimate and the food was great.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
If you are used to the larger ships you may be disappointed. No shortage of daily activities but not like ships double her capacity. Trivia sprinkled throughout the day (get there early for a seat). Napkin folding class, bean bag toss, sexiest man, belly flop contest. Just enough stuff to keep you engaged. Behind the scenes tour is back and that’s always fascinating. Highlight for us was the Sushi making class in Izumi (cost associated).

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Enjoyed the musicians, they were all talented and entertaining. The shows held no curiosity for us so we did not attend any.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every single team member was at the ready. They were engaged, passionate and you can’t turn around without seeing smiles everywhere. With this being a smaller ship, we felt like we really got to know some of the staff beyond just the surface interaction. Candra (sp) in Izumi and sometimes at the Solarium cafe is someone you want serving and assisting you! Nicolaus in Stewarding, James and Lou Ann in the Concierge Lounge are almost family now and Anthony in Main Dining are highlights for us.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Older ship but they work hard to keep her maintained. She could use some love but everything is clean and comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great full view out and very comfortable. We spent more time in the room than previous cruise because it felt so relaxing.

Ship tip

Manage your expectations. I’m not sure this ship is really kid centric (your call if that’s a good or bad thing). If you are looking to relax and enjoy the people you sailed with…if you’re looking to spend time appreciating being away from the chaos of the everyday world, the breeze, the view, the hospitality…then you’ll love it. If cruising for you is water slides, Broadway shows, designer goods and non stop activity..you might look to Allure or Harmony or another of the bigger ships.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Facial recognition makes it a breeze. Only thing to note is if you plan on getting a Lyft or Uber it spotty at bet. Not a ton of Lyft drivers and after getting cancelled and time pushed back twice, we rebooked for a premium Lyft and suddenly we had a driver in 6 minutes. Uber was non existent.

Thank your for sharing your experience. Pro tip, schedule My Time Dining in the cruise planner prior to embarkation. That being said, I've heard so many issues with My Time Dining lately, that I had them switch my next 2 cruises back to traditional. It's nice to know what table you'll be at each night, show up, and go directly to your table without waiting.
