Review summary

Bermuda was beautiful! Loved the scenery, the people. Horseshoe Bay was great!  I was not happy that both shore excursions were cancelled, and that the painting sessions also were cancelled. This trip was selected mainly because of the painting sessions with Brush Strokes - this company backed out after the trip was booked, we were offered a full refund but we decided to stick with the trip. I was not happy with the bar service, I ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri and received a Pina Colada had to wait for the correct drink (main pool bar, not full at the time I ordered my drink). I received a shot of Jack Daniels in a dirty shot glass, again asked for a new drink (bar in the casino). Also had trouble with drinks in the Great Gatsby, being told the can of coke I received on our first day was a mistake, so when I tried to order drinks the next night a glass of ice to go with the can of coke, I received a glass of ice and a glass of coke (no I did not trust myself to pour the coke into the glass of ice without making a mess). the next time we went to the Great Gatsby for dinner, we received our starters before our drink order was taken. I did not feel welcomed in this dinning area nor was I treated as a special person. When I ate in the Windjammer the crew kept taking my silver ware and napkin away while I was up getting more food, I learned that I had to wait for a crew member to come by to tell them directly not to clear my table. This was my first cruise and probably my last. I have no intention of booking another trip with Royal Caribbean!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was good, and selection/variety good.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
the open area where there was singing was ok, I didn't see any of the shows - I don't like being packed in a room like sardines in a can

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
receiving the wrong drink, received a drink in a dirty glass - unacceptable

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
need updates all over the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
room was nice, crew changed the bed from a double to two singles, as I was traveling with a friend we wanted separate beds,

Ship tip

Let the early risers know where to find coffee. I was disappointed that no one could tell me where to find coffee. As I did stop a crew member to ask at 5 am, his reply was the Windjammer opens at 6:30 am - I wake up early and need coffee

Doesn't sound like the same Grandeur that I've sailed on twice. She is my favorite ship in the fleet. She has the warmest, friendliest crew & we are always treated like we are the most important people on the planet. Of coarse we always get to know the crew & joke with them so you may want to try to interact with them. We're booked in Sept on her again & I can't wait! Love this ship!

Too bad you decided not to cruise based on one experience. You're missing out.

They are trained to clear the way . You're not the only person eating on the boat so they need to keep it moving if you want to keep your table then leave someone there . The Windjammer has best food. AND very attentive

Sorry to hear about your problems on the Grandeur. I've sailed on her many times with no problems. Savio, the assistant bar manager has been in the fleet for 11 years and has trained the other bartenders very well. Every time I walk into the Concierge or Diamond Lounges my drink of choice is in my hand within a minute. When I sit at the bar in the Schooner Bar, the bartenders know my favorite drink and put one in front of me without asking. Food service in the MDR as well as in Chops and Giovanni's Table was awesome. The crew is a happy, well trained family type of crew. 5 of my next 7 cruises are on the Grandeur.

Doesn't sound typical at all

Yikes. I sailed Grandeur and loved it. Sorry your experience wasn't to your liking. Bartenders on several cruise lines seem to be less experienced. This is surprising considering this is where they make a good portion of their money. I don't know if those all you can drink packages are wearing them down or if it's just the skill set of the people being hired.
