Review summary

The west coast itinerary was great. One of the most thrilling experiences was leaving and going under the Golden Gate Bridge. Don't know if it was the very windy day or the excitement of the beginning of the trip but it was UNFORGETTABLE! I forgot to mention that this cruise was over Halloween and on the 31st there were decorations and all of the staff dresses up at dinner. It was very cool. How much did I like this cruise? Well I have booked the same cruise for March 2020!

Embarkation

Got to the port at 10:30am, essentially no lines. Was on deck by 11:15 am

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I mostly ate in the main dining rooms. 1 breakfast, all but 1 lunch and all dinners. Also enjoyed afternoon tea. As a solo cruiser it was nice to sit at mixed tables for breakfast, lunch, and tea and met many wonderful fellow travelers. Dinner was traditional 7:30pm, I had a table of very nice ladies. Food was very good. The steak in the dinning room on embarkation day was the best meat I had. Loved the choice of appetizers at each meal. Never had a bad entree. The opportunity to try small portions of new things was great. New sorbet each night for desert was a treat. I also really enjoyed the pizza restaurant and the international cafe. International cafe was great for breakfast, snack, or light lunch.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I enjoyed the pools and decks. Going to the veteran get together was very special.

Lotus Spa

5 out of 5

My first massage was an excellent experience! Would absolutely do it again.

Entertainment

I only went to one show so do not feel qualified to rate.

Children's Programs

Did not bring any children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was friendly and VERY helpful! My room stewards and waiters were very accommodating. Here is an outstanding example of the commitment and service. One tour (interior of the ship) required closed toed shoes. I did not know this ahead of time and did not pack any. Went to the guest services desk to see if this was a hard rule and unfortunately it was. So I canceled the tour. A guest service agent (not the one that helped me) overheard my conversation and tracked me down while I waited for the elevator. This wonder woman asked me my shoe size and offered HER OWN SHOES!!! So I would not miss the tour!! Her generosity brought me to tears. That is caring and service!!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It took me all week to find my way around but, that was not the ships fault. All areas were clean and well cared for. No complaints from me.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was clean and comfortable. Plenty of room for one person. I don't know if I would have felt that way with a roommate. The bed was very comfortable. Having an USB outlet on each side table lamp was very helpful. There two suggestions I would make: 1 - with the narrow entrance and step up into the bathroom it would have been nice if there was something to hang on to besides the door jam to get in. 2 - There should be a daylight lighting option in the bathroom or at the desk. Even with a lighted make up mirror the lighting was very dim when getting ready for the day or formal night.

Ship tip

Go and have fun! The ship is nice, the people wonderful, food and variety of food great!

Ports of call

San Francisco, California Did not visit port

I live in the south bay so only went to breakfast before getting on board.

Santa Barbara, California Did not visit port

I get sea sick as was concerned that looking at the tenders bob up and down that the journey would not be fun. Hopefully next time the seas will be calmer.

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Was able to visit my son who is in the Coast Guard and stationed there. Also took a tour of the USS Iowa, lots of ladders but very interesting.

San Diego, California

5 out of 5
I love San Diego and have visited many times. I walked off the ship and visited Little Italy and my favorite gelato places.

Ensenada, Mexico

5 out of 5
This was a restful vacation so I was happy that right off the gang way was shopping to buy little gifts and that's what I did. Then I got back on board.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was as expected. Got off on time and found my checked luggage easily.

The Golden Gate Bridge is amazing. I had the honor of attending I think it was the 50th birthday party for the bridge. It was beautiful and unforgettable.

Nice review. I agree the lighting is not good for putting on make up. It's like that on every ship i have been on.
