Review summary

Definitely a great cruise! My husband and I are considering doing another Alaska cruise, but maybe out of Vancouver with some different stops. But had a fantastic time!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Check in looked extremely busy, but it flowed so well. We were in line to check in about 5 minutes then up the gangway to the ship. Great experience!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was really good. We only ate in the main dining room a couple of times, just because we’re more casual...the food was good, just really foo foo. We did eat at the Crown Grill & it was amazing! We also did the Crab Shack (in the Crown Grill) & it was very good. The majority of our meals were in the buffet. There were a lot of choices and the food was prepared well. The dining room staff in all the venues was top notch! The Salty Dog had awesome burgers & tacos. And make sure to try Alfredo’s for pizza...very good!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The activities were abundant! The Princess Patter was packed of tons of stuff to do...but I’m giving it 3 stars only because the majority of the activities didn’t interest me personally.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The performances by the ships crew were entertaining and well done. They had a comedian & also a juggling act. They were fun & a good time. Didn’t go to the club so I’m not sure how the DJ was.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Princess’ staff is truly amazing. Our room steward, Marlon, was such a nice person and always there for anything we needed. He took such good care of us. The waiters in the dining room were very cordial and attentive, as were the staff in the buffet. The entire staff makes it a point to acknowledge you when they pass you in the halls or on deck. Superb service!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
As many people have previously said, the ship is older...so with an older ship there will be wear & tear. But all in all, the ship was in good condition and I didn’t see anything that would make me not want to sail on the Grand again.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in a mini-suite and it was very comfortable! Plenty of closet space! Tons of hangers! The bathroom had a shower/tub and ample counter space. The bed was super comfortable & was a bit bigger than a queen but not quite king size. Our couch was fine and the balcony was good size. I think the 2 flat screen tv’s on the wall we’re a little much, since we only watched one of them. Very nice cabin.

Ports of call

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
Victoria is a clean beautiful city. Honestly, there was nothing I really wanted to do there. And I wouldn’t have even left the ship, but a friend requested a specific gin that can only be bought there. So we trekked around town for a bit then caught a taxi back to the ship.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This had to have been the easiest disembarkation ever! We handled our own luggage and were in the 1st walk off group. We were off the ship, through customs & back at our car by 8am. Two thumbs up!

By no means did I catch the cruise bug...but we are talking about doing a 7 day Mexico cruise and I would like to go back to Alaska, but with different ports of call. It was a good time! And definitely book a balcony stateroom or suite...I spent a lot of time on the balcony looking through binoculars at the whales & porpoises!
