Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Specialty Restaurant, Giovanni's, was very good. Service was excellent. Ambience very nice.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
On this cruise my wife and I, as grandparents, mostly baby-sat our one year old grandson. There was a baby pool and splash area for him. One major observation was that the ship's bathrooms had NO diaper changing surfaces. This should be easily remedied when the ship goes in for its updating and resurfacing shortly.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
As stated, the entertainment was OK. Dancers were good. Broadway composite musical performances were fine. Visibility from seats was good and seats were comfortable. Bar service very good. Magician was pretty entertaining. Ice show was fair. My daughter thought there were a paucity of dance areas for adults.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
The ship had on the 12th floor for a couple of hours a day a toddler play area called "Fuel". cushioned matts were arranged for crawlers and there were plenty of electronic toddler toys, baby books, and coloring items. Wisely there was also available Lysol wipes for parents and us grandparents to clean items as we chose.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was awesome. Interestingly, my steward advised me there was no possibility of getting shoes shined, although shoe and tux rentals were available. I always that stewards shined shoes on the side, but guess not in the 21st century. Service on the 11th floor Windjammer open dining area was excellent as it was in the main dining room.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
As mentioned the ship is going in for an update and refreshening. The ship was clean and well designed, but did look aged.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The room was clean, comfortable, and easily fit the portacrib provided by the ship for our one year old grandson. The bathroom was concise as expected. The shower water pressure was much better than expected. Towels were provided as needed. The room dresser and counter area was adequate. There was no electric outlet on either side of the bed making it awkward to plug in my sleep apnea machine conveniently. Luckily we did not trip over the extension cord lying across the floor from bedside to dresser counter on the opposite side of the room. The closet, I thought, was just fine. The life jackets were in the closet to one side out of the way. On the opposite side of the closet was plenty of shelving. The closet safe was easily operated and a nice convenience.

Ship tip

If you bring a child in diapers, be prepared to have a bit of a struggle finding appropriate diaper changing areas on the ship. AS mentioned above, be sure your sleep apnea machine has a long electric cord to span the room to the dresser opposite the bed.

My daughter bought a very nice piece of tanzanite with a wonderful return policy if not completely satisfied when inspected state-side.

It went very smoothly.
