Explorer of the Seas

8 Night Southern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 06, 2022

Ship: Explorer of the Seas

Traveled as: Large Group

Review summary

Our older teenagers (18) participated in a ping pong tournament & one of them won! The other participated in Voice of the Sea and made it to the finals! We enjoyed the piano bar although it's pretty small and is in a super inconvenient spot on the ship just outside the casino. Saw several great shows & absolutely loved the ice show! Pool was fine, but always impossible to find a chair no matter the time of day or night. Fun silent disco & 80s/90s party on board. Overall enjoyed it.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smoother than anything I've ever experienced. I think it took us a total of 20 minutes tops from the time we got dropped off at the terminal to the time we boarded the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
It's a hard one for me to review fairly as I was still in recovery from a surgery & was not able to eat normally. However, my husband, kids & friends that we traveled with mentioned more than once that they thought the food was just ok. I've heard that from others as well & what little I could eat was fine but nothing to write home about. The buffet was rather a cluster most of the time with people seemingly not knowing how a buffet works, but that happens on other ships too.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the ship very much. There was something for everyone. Our boys played in a ping pong tournament & one of them won! Our son auditioned for The Voice of the Sea and made it into the top 10 & performed in the finals! The piano bar was nice & we really enjoyed the promenade.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Excellent shows! Particularly enjoyed the comedian on this ship! We saw a really great show on ice on the ship as well. It was fun & mesmerizing!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I don't remember anymore what our cabin number was because it's been almost a year. But it was an interior room & it was just fine. Like every other room of its type, all the things you need & bed was comfortable. Only complaint was the bed position as on one side the couch touched the end of the bed & on the other the desk touched so you had to climb over to get in bed on both sides.

Ship tip

Whatever the time is an hour before the crack of dawn, get up then to get a chair on the pool deck or you won't get one all day.

Had a great time going to starfish beach & swimming with stingrays!

Oranjestad, Aruba

Had an absolutely fabulous time on a private tour of the island for our party of 7. Driver was superbly polite & knowledgeable & took us all over the island making stops that were never on the itinerary. Would absolutely recommend & tour with them again!

Thanks for sharing. Your recommendation to reserve pool lounge chairs early in the morning is against RCCL policy. I get angry when people do that.
