Review summary

I probably would not book another cruise on this ship. I like the newer, bigger ships better. Also, I have been to all three ports that this cruise stopped at in the past, and twice is enough.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Easy smooth embarkation experience. Lines were minimal. Only problem was that luggage didn't reach my stateroom until after my scheduled dinner time, so dinner the first night was in the clothing I was wearing when I boarded, rather than being able to change before dinner.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
No stevia was available anywhere on board for use in hot beverages. The only sweetening choices were sugar, sucralose, and aspartame. Also, there were never any kind of chips (potato or tortilla), pretzels, or nuts offered. I would like to see bars and snack areas (like the Promenade Cafe) offer chips or other salty snacks to go with my evening libations.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
This ship had an excellent area to go out at night and be able to view the stars. There was an area all the way forward on Deck 5 that kept almost all the lights turned off at night and it was dark enough to make viewing the stars a very good experience.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed watching the comedy show by Two Funny Guys. The adult scavenger hunt the final night was a lot of fun too.

Children's Programs

No kids with me

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the staff was good. My Waiter Irma was really good and went above and beyond trying to help another guest at our table who had a lot of special dietary needs. Our waiter's assistant Dewa, however, was not so great, and had to be reminded at just about every dinner to please refill water and ice tea glasses instead of noticing them and refilling without reminders.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This is one of Royal Caribbean's oldest ships, and there was evidence that it was an older ship, but everything was kept nice and clean. Some examples of wear and tear were areas where rust had been painted over and needed another coat and decorative carpeting in high traffic areas that was worn and frayed around the edges.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I was surprised that there was so much less cabinet space to unpack my clothes into than what I have had on other cruises. Also, there were only two outlets in the room and both were on the opposite wall from the bed, necessitating using an extension cord to plug in my CPAP machine every night.

Ship tip

Make sure you go out on Deck 5 Forward at night to see the stars! Go to the Star Lounge, exit on the starboard side, walk all the way forward, and look up!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Only boarded and debarked here. It was awful! Construction traffic made it so that it took an hour to drive the last mile to the ship. We had to wait an hour and a half for our shuttle to get to us when debarking because there were 5 other ships making port that morning and we were the farthest down the pier.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
I just walked around and saw the city a bit. We were the farthest ship out at the end of the pier and no shuttles came out to us. My mother, who uses a cane, was worn out before ever making it off the pier.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
I enjoyed snorkeling using my own gear. It would be nicer if the water were clearer, but I did see a good number and variety of fishes. The food was only average to poor. The vendors in the marketplace area were super aggressive and made it so unpleasant to walk thru that I left there without hardly even stopping and definitely did not want to purchase anything there.

Falmouth, Jamaica

4 out of 5
We did a short walking tour with a local guide and bought a few souvenirs. Again, vendors were unpleasantly aggressive.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
The line for debarkation was much longer and slower than for embarkation. But it progressed fairly smoothly. The wait for our shuttle after we got off the ship was uncomfortable. There was no place to sit down and no bathrooms except some disgusting trailer bathrooms that were filthy.
