Explorer of the Seas

5 Night Bermuda (Cape Liberty Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 23, 2011

Ship: Explorer of the Seas

Cabin type: Oceanview

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

Generally good experience, though value was at best OK in that they tend to "nickel & dime" additional costs into the onboard experience. This detracts substantially from the overall impression, and is clearly a problem with management philosophy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was generally ordinary, though adequate. Dinner offered only one mid-higher end choice, where other cruises offer more. Numerous items one would think would be included (e.g. espresso) are at extra cost. Value OK.

Entertainment

3 out of 5

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Very limited programs for kids under 3, though the staff were nice and professional.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent service staff who are friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was attractive and nicely laid out. However, public areas, particularly carpeting, appeared dirty and sometimes worn out.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5

Ports of call

King's Wharf, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Beautiful setting with nice weather. Public transportation is touted as excellent, but recent financially-driven schedule cutbacks proved inconvenient.
Don't Miss: Hamilton city

Pros: Service staff

Cons: Nickel & dime financial philosophy
